Meadowhall and other local shopping centres have been closed with immediate effect due to the cold weather and people's inability to think for themselves and accept responsibility for their actions. The relevant authorities have deemed that the surrounding areas, Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley are so full of stupid people who despite travelling to the particular retail areas are then unable to handle the walk from the carpark to the shop doors without falling down or acting like idiots. A spokesman said, "The shops themselves are nice and warm inside but we (SYP) feel that it too much to ask the general public to act in an appropriate manner and to expect them to wear proper footwear is beyond the remit of both the relevant authority (SYP) and the retail centre staff. We know you will understand the reasoning behind our decision but we are also aware of possible litigation should something go wrong. In any case there's always next week."
I get your point but there is a difference between shops being open that anyone could travel to at any time (and almost certainly wouldn't travel as far to get to) and a match being played at a specific date and time that people travel miles to reach. I was unsure whether I would be going to the match or not because of the risk but as money has already been spent and it's a once in a season match I was feeling a little pressured to go. The Norwich players and staff would be forced to attend. I feel no pressure to go to Meadowhall at that exact time and day.
Meadowhall apparently making the decision for themselves, presumably because the staff have been struggling to get in and customers haven't been trying to get in. Had the game gone ahead tomorrow I'd hazard a guess that we'd probably post our lowest league attendance of the season because a lot of people would have preferred to stay at home and keep warm. https://www.thestar.co.uk/news/mead...last-may-affect-store-opening-times-1-9041010
I've been to Meadowhell once. I would rather trap my hand in a door rather than ever go again. The trouble with the place, is that for a regular visitor like my wife, it's full of bargains she just "couldn't leave behind."
Her: 'Look how much I've saved buying this in the sale!' Me: 'Aye but you would have saved even more if you'd left it in the shop!'
I’m glad it’s off, I’m going to put a stew int slowly cooker, have a bet on the football, horses and darts, sit my chair with the central heating on and fire burning watching everyone one of my bets come in on the tv, and the snow falling outside through the window while my house smells absolutely wonderful. That sounds a lot better than sitting outside in the freezing cold doesn’t it ?. Although I suppose all the above could be done in a good pub with mates.
