JUST THIS. 100% SPOT ON!!!!!!!! Absolutely abysmal the pair of them. They were garbage against Wednesday and worse tonight. SHOCKING
Agree. Abysmal. Williams marginally better than Gardner as at least he put in a couple of tackles and had some effect on the game. I deliberately watched Gardner in first half and I swear every time we had the ball he'd go and stand on a man, or behind a man so he wasn't available to receive the ball. I genuinely am not usually overly critical of players but that was one of the most cowardly displays from a Barnsley player I've seen.
The modern day Dawson/Perkins poluting the centre of the park. Jose has to take responsibility for that. They didn't work together for Heckingbottom or the Wednesday match and now for a third different bloke. If they start together Saturday.....
Agree. It's our downfall. WIlliams at least tries to go forward, so for me get rid of Gardner and put someone else in.
Bang on that. Watched them carefully tonight. Williams worst offender for me though. He really knows how to go sideways. He's like a space invader.
I agree with most of the comments but the worrying thing for me is I think we’d be even worse if you swapped either of them for Mallon, Moncur or Potts. It’s a shame but no surprise that Williams in his first season hasn’t been able to maintain his performance levels from August to December
Exactly right, I got some stick for suggesting this last night. Gardner is an appalling player, coasting on potential glories from 5 years ago. Williams marginally better for the defensive side, but requires an attacking midfielder next to him.
Potts is head and shoulders above Gardner/Williams and always has been. Needs to start the next few games. The number of times Potts gets into great positions only to be completely missed by his team-mates is bordering on farcical. And he has far more physical presence than Williams, who on last night's showing would struggle to shield the ball from my mother-in-law (80 and recovering from a hip op).
Williams and Gardner have their individual merits. Collectively they are abysmal. In January we were crying out for 1 or 2 quality Central midfielders but recruited yet another no 10. Madness.
