    Radio Sheffield are reporting that the deal for the French midfielder is a permanent one. Not sure if that will happen today.

    It's not legally enforceable. But clubs agree to it. In the same way that Bosman changed the rules for out of contract players, if a club wanted to challenge this they would have a good chance of winning, imho.

    There is no legal restriction as such. Players can be bought and sold outside the windows.

    But it is written into the competition rules of the various leagues and cups that players can only be registered in the window. So you can do business technically - but there’s no point.

    Leicester have owned adrien silva since 14 seconds after the closing of the august window but couldn’t register him and finalise it until the start of the month. He couldn’t play for either in between.

    Similarly Atletico bought Diego Costa months ago but he wasn’t registered until January.
