Trust Announcements Launch of “Oakwell Wishes” Shirt Auction We are pleased to confirm the launch of our 2017/8 Barnsley F C shirt auction in aid of” Oakwell Wishes”. Firstly, we would like to thank Gauthier Ganaye and Barnsley F C for once again supporting this great cause. Gauthier recently donated the shirts in Redfearn’s Bar prior to one of our home games. The club has donated the match worn shirts of the 11 starters against Leeds United. Most of these shirts will also have been used in previous games. Each shirt will be signed and come with a Certificate of Authenticity. Oakwell wishes started in 2013 and is run by Steve Croft and Laurie Handley, who work voluntarily on match days looking after our junior fans. The aim of Oakwell wishes is to provide football-related experiences at the club or an event involving Barnsley F C to those supporters less fortunate than others. Please support this charity and at the same time own an actual match worn shirt of our current squad. View all shirt auctions and make a bid
Steve can have a smaller medal then mainly because I don't know who he is but I'll assume he does a great job too. I always thought Laurie worked for the club it didn't even cross my mind that he was doing it free of charge. When you think how many kids he has given his time and effort to make smile. Proud to support the same club as him
That we 13 years ago? I remember it like it was yesterday. Though to be fair I can't really remember yesterday very well
Steve helps with the Junior football team scheme, they invite junior clubs in to play in the academy before a match and also provide tickets to the game. They also act as the flag bearers when the teams come on. Its a good scheme as it get kids down to Oakwell who might not normally come and often their families come along as well so extra tickets sales for the club. Some of these then come back subsequent matches and some have become season ticket holders.
He's a top bloke (as is Steve). The Trust (and club) get some fantastic feedback from parents of mascots and those going on the Junior Football Team scheme.
At your age it must be like being on concord for you. For some reason it's never occurred to me that somebody has to take care of the flag bearers as well and also didn't realise that they play a game before the match too. That's a great idea that somebody came up with. Steve can have a bigger medal now as well for his hard work. Makes you wonder just how many of the people we all assume are employees are actually volunteers
