Now there is obviously 'no smoke without fire' and some legitimacy to concerns, but am I alone in thinking this plague of moral indignation at perceived misogyny, sexual abuse & harrassment, anti-semitism and racism has become a runaway train. The latest revelations starting with Weinberg is one example and the whole thing resembles the Salem witch hunts where people made malicious accusations against a neighbour because they coveted their property, for self aggrandisement or because they simply disliked them which seemed to require no physical evidence before the entire community turned on the accused. The same thing happened in 1950s USA with the McCarthy witch hunt where people in the film business turned on each other in a mass hysteria denouncing their friends and colleagues as Communists or communist sympathisers. Now we have accusers pouring out of the woodwork, some of which may be genuine but some will be false and possibly used as a vehicle to generate publicity for the 'victim'. Worryingly, in both cases the accused whether guilty or not is seed as guilty and instant retribution is the order of the day with contracts being cancelled jobs lost and reputations destroyed. Even away from Hollywood, the media seem to fan the flames. Any remarks, even poor jokes or private conversations (see John Humphries conversation with Jon Stopel reported today re equal pay for female colleagues) were seized upon (and distorted) by the media. All these "ruined lives" from having had a knee touched by a man". All it takes is a good slap and a loud get off at the time which is what used to happen. As some women have said, saying I" felt pressured into putting up with it "(to further my career) simply does a mis-service to women. S Strangely much of this hand wringing moral indignation seems to be most prevalent in English speaking countries such as USA, UK Australia.
Interesting that you complain about allegations being made without proof but are happy to conclude that some are definitely false without having any proof yourself. I agree that on the fringes of the matter there is a danger of hysteria but this should not draw attention from, or lessen the seriousness of, the core issues which are real and deserve attention.
Most sensible people are aware of the boundaries between flirting and unwanted harassment, and whilst some of these highlighted cased probably fall into the lighter end of the scale, there is obviously a point where any normal person would back off if its made clear that their behaviour is not wanted. I don't see that there is some mass movement of victim bandwagon jumping, but there are people who have remained quiet for many reasons - they don't think they will be believed, they thought they were the only ones who felt like they'd been abused, they didn't know who to go to or felt it would jeopardize their careers. 99.9% of normal people who have done nothing wrong and have chatted up woman at some stage in their life will will not get accused of anything. Maybe 0.1% of innocent people who've made some comment or made some crass badly timed lunge might, might I add get caught up in this. The rest, probably know they've done something wrong, and hiding behind its a "witch hunt" just doesn't cut it.
Nothing to get steamed up about so far. We need some transparency though. See what I did there? We need another 3 or 4 good signings IMHO before the window closes otherwise it will be squeaky bum time for the rest of the season
I never did? I concluded you’re a lonely old man that needs a hobby but whilever you’re posting these unhinged essays I’ll respond to them. You have literally no say in what I do or don’t do.
Strange that some of the most PC like hollywood and the bbc were the places that allowed weinstein and saville to offend for so long.
I never said anything regarding your right to comment. The irony of you calling my post an unhinged essay did not escape me seeing some of the crap you post ( including at least one totally incoherent rambling I can recall) and the fact you genuinely believe Corbyn is the solution to the UK's current woes (notwithstanding the current shower in office are not exactly covering themselves in glory). You seem quick to anger when someone posts something that you disagree with rather than either engaging in constructive debate or ignoring the post. Strange how you are also happy to contribute to non-footy threads when they support your POV but seek to stifle or ridicule other non-footy posts when you disagree with the OP. This attitude is typical of a Millennial Momentum supporter who seeks to suppress debate and stifle comments that go against his/her own particular agenda. How is that for an unsubstantiated character judgement based on a few BB posts? Unsurprisingly your 'conclusions' as to my character and situation is somewhat wide of the mark.
You’ve not called anyone a moron yet. Well done I’m not arsed in the slightest but I don't think you a very nice person at all.
I'm inconsolable . And I care what you think about me based on what I have posted. because....? You are another of the clique on here who disparage people who post opinions you disagree with by resorting to put downs and insult and then becoming indignant when the poster has the temerity to respond. I have never sunk to the level that some have on here having been called," vile human being" "racist (directly and implied) " in every case having simply posted the situation that exists where I live. Show me evidence to support your conclusion that I am not a nice person when compared to some of the tripe posted on here. If you are referring to this thread do you genuinely believe there is no parallel between what went on in the 50s and what is happening now and that all the accusations are true?
