Gareth Southgate's response to why England line up as 343 tonight.

Hopefully England will win big tonight and finally we'll go to a world cup playing fast attacking football and looking to score goals as opposed to patient, trying not to conceded football.

All this being said, it's a very inexperienced England line up tonight

Your right with the inexperienced but how do you get experience if we play a inexperienced team in friendlies and lose the press and fans are slating em

There's certainly something wrong if this England team loses this game though. They'd deserve slating. Even whilst giving 3 debuts, England should win this game convincingly.

He said he played 4231 to get an extra forward into the side. Not bing funny but playing against the likes of Malta and Lithuania why on earth do we need two holding midfielders? The blokes clueless

He did suggest that he was going to play the same way against Brazil and Germany next month too. So I suppose the proof is in the pudding.

2 defensive/holding midfielders against Brazil or Germany (or a dozen other sides) might help to keep the score respectable.

Against those two we'd also need 5 goalkeepers.
