Is the Barnsley Boundary Walk a right of way through the YSP?

Isn't pedestrian access to the YSP free? I know they charge an arm and a leg for car parking.

Parking free but have to pay for a ticket . No access without a ticket including to bottom gate and paddock entry to the museum at the top .As far as I’m aware there is no right of access through the park . We used to park in the Village Hall and walk in but can’t do that anymore

I've done the BBW twice and both times I've walked through the Sculpture Park without paying. It's not a right of way, but there are two alternatives which are. Either continue on from the bridge to West Bretton, then take the road to Haigh, or take the public footpath south of the park directly to Haigh.

I've been curious about this. As far as I understand, there were public rights of way paths through the old country park/Bretton Hall campus and circling the sculpture park that they've tried to block off access *but* my understanding is that it requires a court order to do that - and I'm not currently aware of any. The historic OS maps show the paths - which would mean without a court order the YSP are illegally blocking access.

Now, I could be wrong - but the paths existed before Bretton Hall bought Longsides in the mid-90s and the track from Park Lane to Litherop Lane is public.

Simply walk through and if challenged, ask them to ring the police. If they do actually do this, ask the police why they are willing to prioritise this type of henious crime but too scared to handle threats to nhs staff in the hospital and leave this job to nurses. Then phone calendar, the bbc and the Barnsley chronicle to discuss further.

Trespass is a civil rather than criminal offence*. The police shouldn't attend unless it escalates into a public order offence.

*Traspassing with a vehicle or setting up a camp is now illegal.

Walked through last week and it’s perfectly fine, there’s no one to stop you anyway. There are a few routes in where it says you don’t have access but they aren’t the public right of way. upload_2025-5-27_17-18-45.png

I didn’t want to pay to park but fancied a look round so I parked on Litherop Lane with a plan to walk on the path from there to the Sculpture Park.

I put my headphones in & set off walking & after messing about with my phone picking a song I looked up to see a naked man up in front just off the main path. I tried to hurry up past him but the dog decided to take a dump right there & then leading to what felt like the longest minute or so of my life getting out a poo bag & picking it up.

I googled it later on & apparently it’s a notorious dogging spot & there’s also been a murder on the lane. Someone was shot dead there in 2009.

I’d suggest paying to park & I’d certainly avoid that bit of path unless you’re into that kind of thing!
