The most goals I've ever witnessed in a game was 11. It was a similar scenario. AFC Barnsley went a goal down in the first 5 minutes and won the game 10-1. I don't recall the opposition (Dinnington Town rings a bell), and I can find very little reference to AFC Barnsley at all online, other than their league positions.
That would probably be it. I don't recall the game at all though, but I didn't see much football at all last season.
It was an entertaining game, with some very questionable defending. I think it was in the midst of Chaplin’s purple patch and he got a hat trick.
I am not sure what kind of team they put out & they were actually winning for a while so I am presuming nothing, but in this day & age it is rare at this level of the game to concede 11 goals in a match .
I watched a pre-season friendly, god knows how long ago, where The Reds scored 10. We beat Hearts of Oak, Accra, 10-0. Think they might have been a Ghanaian team. Wish I could recall the year....
We beat them 10-1 in 1970. In 1975, we beat Maltese team Gudja United 16-0 (John Peachey scored 5 goals).
Saw us beat Man Utd reserves 6 5 in the Central League just before Munich then we had an 11 5 game with them a few years later
