You can backup WhatsApp. It should store all your conversations then, and keep you in the groups.

Settings > Chats > Chat Backup.

If your keeping the same number you shouldn’t need to do anything

I have a new phone with a new number, and I can still use the WhatsApp linked to my old phone.

I think you need to back up your messages though if you're getting a new phone. I know when I got this one, I lost all the messages I'd received on WhatsApp from the 6 months prior, but I had everything from before that. Even when keeping the same number.

But yeah, you'll stay in the same group chats etc.

as long as you are staying on the same phone OS if you back up your chats on the old phone (most do it automatically anyway) when you log into the new one you can recover them. Only time it wouldnt work is if moving from IOS to android then it fails.
