anyone been? My lovely missus as compensation for me having the chop today has just booked us 3 days in a spa hotel there next week. So potentially watching England v Brazil in Italy! Recommendations?
A really beautiful place. Even if you don't like Opera the open air Theatre is well worth a visit. On one trip we got chatting to Jean Franco Zola in the airport lounge. He was flying to London to watch Chelsea in the Cup Final. Really nice bloke and so very modest.
Yes. I would recommend fondling Juliet's nipple, while simultaneously wishing for Barnsley to win the league next year.
Recommend being brave and trying horse, also hunt down gianduotto, a place near the huge square with amphitheatre along the old medieval city walls Wander up to the top of the big hill for great views and just wander everywhere, oh and prosecco is dirt cheap so enjoy!
Attachment gives some tips of what to see and where to go in Verona Exiled. If I was going , on one of the days I would definitely visit Bardolino on the South East shore of Lake Garda. It's renowned as the principal wine growing area in the region. I'd get a taxi to either Peschiera or Sirmione and then hop on the ferry to Bardolino. Trust me you wouldn't regret it. https://www.italyguides.it/en/veneto/verona
There is a Roman "open air Theatre" across the river with views over it into the town but there is also a Roman amphitheatre a little smaller than the coliseum in Rome but impressive nevertheless. They stage major concerts there besides classical. We went to see Zucchero(the man credited with bringing the Blues to Italy) in concert (look him up) a year or so back . Set, lighting and sound was amazing and the concert lasted from 9 until 11:30 and we went for a pizza in one of the restaurants in the square outside afterwards. Given it is a tourist town, prices for food and drink are nothing like you would pay in Venice , Florence or Rome and the food is miles better. First went there as a birthday surprise for my wife in 2001 and it was one of the major reasons we fell in love with Italy and ended up moving here. Excellent for couples
That's right Shenk and the inspiration for Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. The place positively drips history.
You lucky people Tekkytyke. I genuinely love Italy. It's such a civilised place. If it wasn't for not seeing my grandkids and not being able to watch my beloved Reds, I'd move there in a heartbeat. Once I'm recovered from my hip replacement Op which is tomorrow, we will be heading for a 10 day holiday in Bardolino.
Get yourself a Verona Card. 22E for 48 hours access to attractions http://www.tourism.verona.it/en/information/travel-your-way/verona-card/discover-the-benefits Go to the top of the Torre dei Lamberti, but pay extra for the lift and avoid being up there when the bells ring on the hour and half hour! Great little art gallery attached too. Ristorante Greppia nearby is belting, down a backstreet on the Vicolo Samaritana. Had a brilliant lunch amongst loads of locals http://www.ristorantegreppia.it/ristorante-greppia-english If you like craft beer head to Archivio on Via Rosa. Tiny little bar with really good beer. https://www.google.co.uk/search?ie=...96395091460314086,rc_q:Archivio,ru_q:Archivio And if you want somewhere a bit special and like modern Italian food try Locanda 4 Cuschi on Via Alberto Mario. Table cloths you can draw on, bright coloured wine glasses, and brilliant food. We had deconstructed aubergine parmigiana to start and suckling pig. 3 courses and good wine for 2 was under 100 E. You will need to book but our hotel got us in. http://www.locanda4cuochi.it Hope that's of use. Cracking place. Enjoy!
