So - the penalty incident on Zaha ‘not a clear and obvious mistake’ so the decision not to give a penalty is upheld. OK.

So how on Earth then is it right to later disallow Ayew’s goal for being a quarter of an inch offside at the 19th view. I know it’s right under the aw but the law’s stupid. Why isn’t the rule ‘clear and obvious’ for offside overrules as well?

Stopped watching PL footie for this very reason. If you have to use a slide rule and draw lines over a screen then the game I've loved for over fifty years no longer exists.

Can you imagine when Nards scored the winner in the playoff semi v Huddersfield and having to wait to see if the ball had brushed the arm of one of our players or their earlobe was 2cm offside somewhere in the build up that started a minute earlier. It sucks the joy out of the game.

I understand that next year they will be allowing limited crowds back but everyone including the players will be wearing masks  :)

they need to adopt the cricket DRS that if the umpire, referee/linemen in this instance gives a decision then its only overturned if its clear and obvious. goal line reviews can be used as cricket use run out review and its absolute, that system works well at the minute, apart from that 1 instance at villa.

give managers 2 challenges, so last night Man Utd could have appealed the ayew offside goal if the linesman didn't give it, palace could have appealed if he did give offside, palace could have appealed the no penalty and lost as it wasn't a clear and obvious error or a clear and obvious penalty, if the ref had given a penalty man utd could have reviewed it and lost as it wasn't a clear and obvious error,

similar to cricket on LBW, its both out and not out depending what the umpire has given on the field.

They also need to make this clear to all managers to stop them whining.
