On this specific point, and no other that I have encountered so far, Brexit may actually be an advantage. Starmer has buttered up Trump, flattered him, and played him like a fiddle. Our trade deal with the US will be far better than that of the EU. Doesn't come close to redressing the rest of the diarrhoea we've had to put up with since the entirely selfish in our society f***ed it up for the rest of us, but the point still stands. A federal court has ruled that the pretext for him setting the tariffs by executive order based on a 1970s law about emergency powers is illegal and therefore the tariffs are illegal. Trump has appealed so the tariffs remain in place until the appeal is heard. Ultimately the case could go to the Supreme Court which is of course loaded up with Trump supporters so that the likelihood is that tariffs will remain. Unless he does a TACO...
I'm not sure you're right about this, the EU is a powerful trading block almost on a par with the USA and is clever in the way it engages in tariff wars. They deliberately target industries in states where the Republicans have small majorities, I understand they did this to Harley Davidson during Trump's first term. Our "trade deal" is a joke, we have successfully negotiated ourselves into a worse trading position than we were in the day Trump was inaugurated. Of course this is precisely what Trump's tariffs are designed to do; ie browbeat trading partners to accept a worse arrangement which are more beneficial to the USA. In our post-Brexit weakness, we have bent over and taken it. The EU of course will fight.
That, without doubt, is true. And in usual negotiations it would hold a lot of weight. But Trump is Premier League, stratospheric bonkers. We're living in a world where an invitation to meet the King of England appears to hold more weight than economic security for hundreds of millions of people. I wish that wasn't the case, but it appears to be what we're dealing with.

Its very hypocritical of me especially to say but not everything has to be a pile on. Everytime I see Stephen commenting on a political post it's soon followed by comments reminding everyone who he's voted for in the past (despite him vocalising his regret and how he'll vote differently in the future) Isn't part of living actually growing and formulating better ideas and opinions of the world and society around us? I've not read the details of the deal, but from the unbiased American commentary I've seen, we've got the better side of the deal - unless its that bad that both sides hate it!
