Am I right in thinking that the coach tells the recruitment team what he wants.? So he tells them that he wants a holding midfielder preferably with experience. The recruitment come back with 3 options. For example 1 is Sam Morsey,1 is Kyle Dempsey the lad from Gillingham or we've chance to sign a talented lad from Man.City."He isn't experienced but he's some player."
The coach then studies videos and stats and sees that Gomes blows them out of the water.
    Is that how it works?
The options are given to the coach and the coach decides which one he wants.

I think this has been done to death.

I think the research and statistical approach is perhaps formulaic and robust. The choosing I suspect has much more variation to it. For instance, what input did Schopp have into signing Cole?

I don’t think there’s a binary 1st choice based on criteria, it’ll spit out a range of options. Your question then bypasses the killer issues of whether we can afford a player within our structure, and whether they’ll want to come.
Research can only suggest who might fit those criteria, but until we’ve made an approach we have no idea what the reception will be.

And for all the talk of ‘scouting’ and ‘spreadsheets’, I believe the end negotiations are probably the most important elements - and honestly why you need a decent CEO to give you a successful transfer window.

And I’d suggest not having Dane would have made a huge difference to who we’ve recruited this summer. Maybe as much as the point at which Marcus’ requirements were considered.

I think we all have suppositions about this,my take would be that the head coach is exactly that.
Team managers are a thing of the past ,decisions like recruitment my guess is out of the coach's job description.
Ask the previous coaches , may be interesting listening to Heckys views after getting some red wine down him .

To be fair hecky blamed everyone and everything when he was in charge for performances and results when they were awful. Even publicly slating players after games. So you probably better off asking val or schopp for a true reflection.

Hecky always said he wouldn't play a player if he'd not chose him.
