Tbh I am disappointed but I thought we looked tired, Styles and Brittain in particular. Glad we've got Williams back fit, we're going to need him. Misplaced passes means more energy spent chasing the ball. I don't care what we get offered for Mowatt we need him. If he decides to leave on a free so be it, he doesn't owe us anything after 4 years. Be over the moon if we can keep him though. Thought Collins did well, Sibbick seems as though he will progress nicely and that may well be why he's getting the starts, build his confidence up.Anderson and Mowatt for me as MotM contenders. We kept a clean sheet, we kept going till the final whistle , regroup and come back stronger next game. You reds!
Before game I’d have gladly taken a point after game disappointed that we have yet again by enlarge dominated the game and not got what our dominance deserved . We seem to be getting refs who are making our games the ones they decide to have howlers . Easy decisions waved away whilst the merest touch by our players results in fouls and bookings . Glad Vi has spoken out about this as enough is enough and needs highlighting . Week after week pundits pointing to refs gaffs on our games and mostly against us . Victor please practice ball control a bit more in training otherwise you’ve played well .
I think Sibbick starts because he has pace...the gaffer sees we have none ...or little pace in the back three and tbf....in midfield. I wouldn't be suprised to see big val bring more of this into the team gradually and no suprise jordan williams got a few minutes today. Pleased with the nil nil today... i actually think we shaded it but the hoof it from the back when we have time is beginning to annoy. My mom...Anderson, making steady confident progress.
I agree, and it wasn't a great game, but these were the games we were losing last season. We're making progress, we can't win every game, so let's consolidate this season. That's what we said we all wanted, so I'm a little perplexed at some of the other comments on here. We're doing ok, we're heading in the right direction
Dominated? They should’ve been out of sight by half time. We were a bit better second half, but aside from one header never really troubled them
In some ways I'd be worried as a Forest fan. Experienced players getting caught offside when there was an open goal waiting. Really should have been 2 0 up at half time.
Agree with all of that. When Styles and Brittain aren’t playing well it takes away all of our attacking threat. Hope the lack of midweek game this week helps, but after Derby we play Thursday, Sunday, Wednesday. It’s a lot to ask.
If we’d done that I’d now be having to buy a new telly and a present to act as a grovelling apology for my wife
Agree 100% Feeling disappointed after only drawing away at Forest shows the improvement that Big Val has brought to us. We are competitive in every single game these days no matter who we play, it seems a lot of years since I can remember feeling like that in the championship.
You stole my thunder re Styles. He hasn’t been great over the last few games and it affects the performances. No doubt in my mind that he is a very important player to us now, along with Woodrow, Mowatt and Brittain. If these lads are at it we are better for it.
Have they rearranged the brentford game? I am assuming it will be moved from the Saturday to the Sunday but i’d not seen any confirmation
For the first time in a very long time we have a week before we play again. Re-charge the batteries and re-set before the visit of Derby County who have a midweek fixture. We need to get in a left wing back and then move Styles back into his more natural position of central midfielder.
Without going into detail about each individual player, I think we did very well against a side with several times our budget. They have some quality players and yet it was their keeper at the end who was playing for time. They brought a player on who cost them 4.5 million, their coach has managed in the prem and we dominated them. We need more guile up front and particularly in the first half, hoofed it up too much. Teams are taking us seriously and defending better against us. There's a lot of talk about another striker, but on yesterday's form what we need is a holding midfielder. We are less effective without Matty James. We don't know what Morris can do yet.
Having not seen the match and reliant on only 2 minutes of highlights I cannot really counter the accusations of hoof ball, creating very few chances and a boring match but, notwithstanding the fact that highlights obviously compress 90 odd minutes and show the best bits. I have to say, it did show a clear 'pulled back' penalty disallowed for a reason only known to the officials, some flowing quick passing moves from Barnsley and a cracking shot from Kane heading for the top corner that resulted in a brilliant save. On the other side of the coin the defence was 'all at sea' on more than a couple of occasions and if the highly paid Forest strikers had not forgotten about something called 'the offside rule' they would have easily scored in a 2 against 1 situation. Based solely on highlights, it was a match that should have seen Barnsley come away with 3 points so someone on another thread stating we will be in a relegation battle 'cos we have not won for a few games seems IMO a bit 'OTT' especially as we are not far off the playoff points wise. In fairness, at the present time we are not looking like a side that would make a Playoff final but even having a sniff at a top six place at this point in the season is progress indeed. I am a bit unclear why Solly is sidelined as he seemed to marshall the defence and displayed leadership with regard to our young players. COYR!
The first half saw us hoofing the ball up, not keeping it and then pressing them so they couldn't get at us. It wasn't subtle and wasn't good to watch, it also didn't create many chances. We got caught out at the back because we played a high line and relied on Sibbick's pace to get us out of trouble, which it did most of the time. Second half saw us trying to pass it more and I think we played better, but they defended very well and gave nothing away. There's something frenetic in our play under VI and no one puts their foot on the ball and looks for a pass and that's why I think that kind of player would be even better for us than another striker. I agree with Helen that we should sell the shop to keep Mowatt. One final point. If we try to play that high line against Brentford they'll get more goals than they did against Wycombe. Just thought of something else. It could be that when the new left sided defender is fit and settled Styles could become that midfielder.
Very puzzling, while I understand the need to give Toby some game time and he does provide more pace at the back, Solly's leadership is invaluable (should be captain in my opinion). I think there's a stronger argument for rotating Anderson, Helik and Sibbick, but even that would be harsh on Anderson and Helik who've both been excellent. It's a nice problem to have I suppose....
