That apparently are going to be sent to 1.5 million people thought to be at risk

    What a load of tosh

How much has this cost? What will it achieve?
To me it's a publicity stunt
Letters saying stay in cos there's a problem will land on peoples doormats on Tuesday. Does anybody think that the entire country does not know what is going on?
We have hundreds of TV channels keeping up up to date minute by minute.
Also all the letters will have been handled by potentially infected personnel?
And we're sending them to vulnerable people?
I well realise that this is an unprecedented situation, but what a waste of time and effort
    IMHO of course

Isn't this contact via letter, email, sms and telephone confirming people who must now self isolate for 12 weeks.
If that is me or my family, then I would like it confirmed.
I am sure these are extracts from the NHS practitioner databases.

I expect these letters to be about as effective as the ones telling us not to vote for Brexit.

Agreed RR my point being that anyone only has to turn on the telly, and in fact anybody of a certain retirement age should be doing this, as I type the guy standing next to Last Gasp Johnson is saying that the letter will direct you to a website if you are concerned! (don't know who he is)

I think you may be making assumptions about the purpose and content of the letter.

I personally am **** scared, normally pretty laid back.
But myself, the missus & my mother are all allegedly at risk.
If we all have to do certain things to get through this, I want to know.
Currently walking the dog where I know there is little chance of seeing anyone else is my escape.
Otherwise we are in our house or garden away from others.

    Scary times imo.

Happy for others to disagree and do their own thing, just stay away from me for now lol

Hundreds of channels keeping us up to date and yet in another thread you're castigating people for being in public places despite these hundreds of channels carrying a message that we should socially distance. The letters of themselves can't do any harm. Personally I think the authorities need to get tough on people ignoring the advice that's out there already and if that means arresting and detaining people so be it.

I have diabetes but it's under control, the Doctor even told me that my last blood test was "pretty good to be honest" I wonder if I'll be told to stay indoors?

    Lockdown nailed on.
The reason I know this is because on the last home game of the season we ask that no one runs onto the pitch.
    Does it work?

But that's exactly my point BS, I agree with every word, the letters can't do any harm but will they do any good?
If Boris imposes the restrictions just as Italy and Spain have done-fantastic, if sending a letter to people will make people follow the advice-fantastic

My point is that everything is just "advice" and that leaves people free to interpret that as they want.

Sending 1.5 million letters in my view will not change behaviours until they are enforced

Actually I was referring to the key worker notification. If they do send out broader public notifications then I wouldn't say they were a publicity stunt, far from it. They have tried every form of communication and some people continue to ignore all the advice being given so its just another way to try and increase awareness amongst the hard of thinking.

It will be a waste of money, I agree on that point because those currently ignoring advice will continue to ignore it. Until we, as a country, are forced to follow advice, nothing will change.

Key worker letters? I didn't know that, we were told they were being sent electronically.

No mate - we’re at cross purposes - I’m talking about the letters to those who are subject to ‘shielding’ - the at risk population.

My bad, I initially assumed we were talking about the key worker letters.

Just watched the news, it’s amazing how many selfish thick fkrs are at large in this country.
The misses and me managed to go for a lovely country walk whilst managing to avoid anybody else, but then you look at the scenes round say Snowdonia and it’s just mind boggling :(

Of all the financial things to get stressed about, you’re worried about 600 grands worth of letters going out to people? There isn’t a word to describe what a minuscule, infinitesimal, minute drop in the ocean this is versus the costs of all the other measures that have been introduced.

And a publicity stunt? Yes, that’s definitely required - I’ve been trying to read about Coronavirus in the press, but I can’t find a mention of it anywhere. Does anyone have any good links?
