……...why, with 14,000+ back in the ground on Saturday the team cannot revert to the standard they set in the game against Fulham. That result was no fluke - if anything it flattered Fulham. The performance was built on hard work, high pressing and doing what the coach instructed. Now we have had our balloon burst a little it's back to the hard graft and hopefully back to our home form of the last 18 months.

Everyone knows what the League Cup entails - that's why there were only 5,000 fans there last night. Forget that result - it means nothing. Onwards and upwards.

I sense it’ll be a totally different atmosphere to the Fulham game. One bad ball played out from the back and the doom mongers will be on at them.

We said it would take time for things to work out, and the win against Fulham hasn’t changed that.

More pressure saturday because alot of fans will turn up expecting a win because Charlton came up with us. Can see it being a tense affair.

    Absolutely.

People are entitled to their opinions regarding last night- but some of the bairning was ridiculous. We've played three games- one was brilliant, one below average and one very poor.

Bit of perspective needed. We aren't rubbish after last night. Just as we aren't going through the season unbeaten following the Fulham game.

I don’t think the Fulham tactics will work. Fulham came here expecting to play us off the park. You were never going to get Mitrovic & co pressing us, Charlton will. They’ll have watched what Wednesday did against us & try & employ similar tactics.

Don’t know how many of the Charlton players are there from last season. ( I believe they had quite a few loanees) But they were the form team in the division last few months and will still be carrying momentum into this season if a settled side.

Charlton lost 3 of the back 4 that started their play off final against Sunderland (dijksteel, Bauer and Bielik)

Edit: My mistake they’ve lost two of the back four, one centre midfield and a winger from the starting 11

I’m just hoping the goodwill and enthusiasm from the Fulham game hasn’t been thrown out with the bathwater in two disappointing performances.

There’s no doubt the team needs us in full swing till it finds its feet properly and in the way it needs to start picking the points we need for survival .

Charlton will be a tough test for us on Saturday and we need to get at least maximum points from these type of fixtures to have any chance of staying up.

There’s been some warranted criticism of the team, tactics and individual players but most has been in perspective and isolation of the two performances .
There’s been a lot of overreaction by a few also imo and hope it don’t overspill into the atmosphere this weekend if things don’t start off too well .
It’s to soon to condemn them as some have done that they’ll never be good enough etc etc.
These players are all we have till at least January they need our support , yes let’s let them know off the pitch if they aren’t putting the effort or skill etc but support them on it ,
If there’s no improvement in ten or a dozen or so games I think they’ll be some mumblings in the management and squad anyway ,
So choose how frustrating and disappointing you think the last two games have been it’s a clean sheet on Saturday so COYR

I'll be gutted if the Oakwell atmosphere reverts back to 2 year ago when were last in the championship. by the end of the season that was a poisonous place to be for both the fans and the players, with every bad touch or pass met with shouts of despair from 3 quarters of the stadium.

I'd rather be back in league one than have that sh*t back at Oakwell.

Yeah we need to give them full support in next six or seven home games at least .
Don’t want their heads to go down .
Imo those players involved in last two games will be as disappointed and frustrated as the fans with their performances and will want to put things right .

Especially as it’s what they did to us at the valley

This game will tell us something about the character of our new team. Can they take a hit, clear their heads, then fight back. Or is it another meek soft team that are very technical but lack grit.

I’m really concerned about Mowatt. Losing set pieces, direct threat at free kicks, one of the better strikers of the ball and most experienced player who has had a year of stendels style.

I’d very much think about looking at a free agent if 5 weeks is the initial diagnosis.

Only the owners have the ability to effect what happens on the pitch as they control the purse strings. If they are really interested in success at Barnsley then they will employ the Man City model and buy businesses around the globe and pump profits from those businesses into the team to get around FFP like it seems a lot of clubs employ in this league. We can’t even compete with the Brentford’s now, that in itself speaks volumes.
