Allowing genticly born males to compete in women's categories is a huge issue for everyone involved and a very difficult issue to solve.

Hateful and abusive comments like that are just downright disgusting.

That's not remotely helpful or funny, particularly given that one member of the forum has been so open about their struggles and pain dealing with these issues. I'd hope that you or admin will have the sense to delete this tbh.

It's a serious issue for the sport and not really a opportunity for "humour", if that was the intent.

Interestingly there was a transgender golfer the other day saying she wouldn't feel comfortable competing in the ladies series as she felt she would have too much of an advantage .

Is it just me that doesn’t understand, in an Olympics where 4 trans athletes are competing, why a disproportionate amount of focus is given to this weightlifter? I’ve not heard anyone chunter about the rest.

having second thoughts - I hope Admin DON'T delete this thread so that GC who posts about this issue can see how many of us found the original post very offensive.

I thought the others were DSD, so they have xx chromosomes but high levels of testerone? It's all very confusing but as I understand it they don't want to suppress their hormones artificially and so can only compete at certain distances.

Laurel was born female and is now competing as male which is why many are talking about it due to the potential advantages, two of the other three were born female and rather than transitioning to male are simply identifying as 'non binary' (in other words they believe they aren't male or female) and still competing as their birth gender. The fourth athlete is in the same boat as Laurel, born male and is now female however I suspect the reason she isn't mentioned much is that she was 'only' an alternate which is essentially a back up in case of injury. Unless I've missed something I don't think she actually competed nor was expected to.

So basically the reason Laurel gets all the stick is that out of the 4 she's the only male to female athlete who is actively competing in the games

She must be a top player with an average drive of over 280 yards , fairway accuracy as good as the top LPGA players because it’s better than the PGA

That's really interesting, bearing in mind that I'd have thought that golf would be one of the sports in which men should have little to no advantage over females. Admittedly I don't know that much about the sport, but as far as I'm aware hitting the ball is all about technique and nothing to do with strength and brute force.

Let people do what they have to do but they should not be allowed to compete like this its so wrong!
Didn't that Castor Semenya get thrown out( don't know full details, but there was a hoohar).
It gives such an unfair advantage for me not getting into the trans issue more about the advantage it gives and shouldn't be allowed in competetive sports.

Like I've said before, there's no easy solution to this one. Despite being trans myself, I often find myself leaning towards the 'this is a bit iffy' side of this debate. I'm always of the opinion that everyone should have as many rights as possible, until those rights infringe on someone else's. And I do fear that can be true sometimes in this case.
