Handcuff the selfish panic buying idiots to their shopping trolley and make them drag it around with them everywhere they go. A sort of latter-day branding.

Shops should have been limiting purchases weeks ago. The situation is scandalous.

Agreed, in addition to removing trolleys, there should be a total spending limit and an item limit. There's enough food for us all, why the selfishness? If you've a large family, prove it and get a dispensation. Simplistic, I know, but it can't continue like this.

Beyond the madness, I do think there's a balance to be had with trolleygate. Immediate reaction at the mo, is to assume someone with a fully trolley is panic buying. And I'm sure that's going on. But what if someone is shopping for several isolated people who can't get? Another very fair point is that buying 3 months worth in one go then locking down, may actually be ultimately better than 'nipping to the shop for bits' every other day and increasing the risk of transmission.

Even worse are those pretending to be buying for elderly neighbours or relatives so they can hoard more. Absolutely despicable.

One German supermarket (it is a chain but not sure if it's just 1 shop) has different pricing for toilet paper to stop people buying too many...

    Buy 1...normal price

    Buy 2....normal price + €5

    Buy 3....normal price + €10

The extra goes to charity to help people with the virus.
