    To me, a 'super moon' is Kylie Minogue, just outside my window, jeans and knickers pulled down to her knees, bent over, looking back over her shoulder saying "I love you Jay". So I've got a feeling I'm going to be a little disappointed.

    No a full moon can occur at any time in it's orbit (I think) It's when the Moon is a at it's Perigee, it looks a lot bigger at moon rise.

    When the moon rises why does it look bigger than several hours later.
    Surely it's the same distance away.

    It’s because when it’s near the horizon you’ve got other things in your eyeline such as trees and houses so your brain is comparing it to them. Once it’s higher in the sky your brain can’t compare to those objects.

    yes, a brilliant sight.
    My old grandfather always said a full moon signalled a change in the weather - seeing the weather forecast for Sunday he may have been right!
    He also said that a crescent moon which could hold water meant a dry period of weather whilst a crescent moon with the tip downwards which couldn't hold water - if you know what I'm trying to say - meant a period of wet weather.
