Another piece of my childhood gone Blockbuster was one of the first singles I ever bought https://www.theguardian.com/music/2020/jun/04/the-sweet-bassist-steve-priest-dies-aged-72
RIP Steve. I loved The Sweet as a kid. Their greatest hits CD has some cracking stuff on it. Perfect for when you're in a nostalgic 70s mood.
We always used to put the B sides on the jukebox, it was like listening to a different band. The Sweet was a proper band but couldn’t make a living playing their stuff (which was quite heavy) so jumped on the glam rock bandwagon. They were described as a bunch of Brickies in lipstick. Brilliant!!!
If my memory serves me correctly, it was one of my first singles too. I went into Barnsley or Donny and bought my first three singles: 1. Blockbuster 2. I'm a Union Man - Strawbs 3. I think it was the latest Slade single, but I'm not sure
I'm not sure now. This is the UK charts in 1973, when Blockbuster had been No. 1 for 4 weeks. https://www.officialcharts.com/charts/singles-chart/19730211/7501/ This supports my Sweet and Strawbs memory, but not Slade. I was into Bowie, so it could have been Jean Genie.
Ok gudbye t Jane there. I was positive it was earlier but in my defence it was a long time ago. But some fantastic acts and tunes there. Faces, Bowie, Alice Cooper and Chuck Berry with my Ding a Ling Great days.
After a quick google it seems Slade never had a single out at the same time as Blockbuster...Cum on feel the noize was rereleased later in the year...sorry I'm wrong looking at the wrong year
Massive Bowie fan but had a lot of time for Sweet, my first single was Ride a White Swan..but had discovered Norther Soul ...dancing was the order of the day.
