Injured again, retired latest tournament, couple of weeks before Aussie Open starts. Feel for the lass. Small part of me wonders if she'll ever get fit enough for long enough, to compete at the highest level. She's banked a shed load of cash already like, and could retire from the game tomorrow if she wanted to.
That's what's done for her. Surrounded herself by the wrong people after the U.S Open win. Could have been a force but she's ruined herself. Once you lose that edge it's difficult to rediscover it.
Very harsh view here. She’s spent months getting herself fit and in solid shape - and she’s suffered an injury today that anyone could have done, rolling her ankle, probably suffering a nasty sprain, when she slipped on a very slippery surface (which has been criticised by multiple players). She’s 20, just a kid. She had massive success out of nowhere and the spotlight has been on her ever since. She might not ever reach the same heights again but I wouldn’t write her off just yet.
No shame in being a one tournament wonder having a fortnight where everything goes far better than the norm. Happened to loads over the years like Ostepenko, Lisicki and Bouchard.
She may well come back - she is only 20. She has the ability but does seem a bit injury prone at the moment - hopefully she can get through it and sort out a decent coach and come back stronger. Probably also depends on how much she really wants it but fingers crossed she can get herself back to fitness and start winning again
Well if Jez Green cannot keep her fit and improve her she's going to struggle. As the fitness coach of Andy Murray he took him from a gangly young injury prone lad, to a fitness machine. Hope he can do the same for Emma.
I wish her well obviously; but wasn’t her first action after winning the US open to sack her coach? Seemed a bit odd…and since then has sacked a few more. Seems like a sign, what of I don’t know haha…
I don't think she has the body to play professional tennis to the highest standard over an 18-30 career. She is wonderful to watch in full flow and let's face it she's got a happy personality to die for, but her body won't let her play the game she could play. It's happened to others.
Ain’t just sprained ankles though is it.everytime she goes on court she pulls something, twists something mostly they are muscle injuries cannot be coincidence.
