    Colin Swift was the Milkman I used to help when I was a teenager round Summer Lane area. I used to get up at 6 am, do a paper round, help Colin on his milk round, then go to school at Holgate

    Aye, but I'd already done a double 12 hour shift darn pit, befoor I got up at 6! Then after school back t'pit to do another double 12 hour shift :)

    Worked with John Short doing my pit top training prior to going underground .
    Think he said he’d played for Everton and Wolves but memory and all that ?.
    Edit
    It was Stoke and Wolves , just googled him, he died young about eighteen months after I’d worked with him at Houghton Main .
    He was forty eight but my memories of him were being much older but that’s probably cos I was a young lad .
    There were some famous people at the pit as I recall also working with the boxer Billy Thompson .
    And War Hero Ernest Chapman .
