Not surprised... it’s Been running at a massive loss for years. COVID has given them legitimate grounds to close it...
it's a brilliant venue and used for National Competitions - wonder where the Swimming and Diving clubs will relocate to - Leeds? Not many 50 metre pools around.
I agree. Cracking venue, but costs an arm and a leg to run. One of the best pools in the world for competition. It’s depth changing ability and boom sides were ground breaking. Many records have been broken there. Unfortunately most people don’t care about competitive swimming, and would rather bob about in a kidney shaped wave lagoon pool. I can’t see Sheffield council justifying the massive loss it creates in such an underused facility. That said, Leeds have a brand new, state of the art centre for sport with the latest 50m and 25m pool. It also includes running tracks and 5g football facilities.
Theyve had no income from anywhere for the last few months. All the events are cancelled. Subscriptions frozen/cancelled No university money. No summer holiday camps/masses of kids Metrodome isnt so far behind....
Who says Metrodome’s not far behind’ I’ve not read or heard anything. Most of their activities are full to capacity, yes it is a reduced capacity but members subscriptions up and running.
Cracking pool... only one I’ve ever been to where in the winter you couldn’t see from one end to the other because of fog.... 33 and a third yd’s long as well...
