I don’t understand it. One game into the season and it’s now apparent to the head coach and all at Barnsley we need some physical signings. Every fan as seen this fir over 12 months n we’re still messing about after first game. Should have been a priority week after last game of last season. Midfield and up top just get bullied and pushed around.
I was watching the Newcastle match last night and there was the kind of player we need (im not daft enough to think we can afford him) but a player with similar attributes to Callum wison. Not massive but quick aggresive, can hold the ball up and create and can shoot. It also proves you dont have to be 6 foot 5 to be a nuisance. So some one like him for £50 grand (ha ha ha). Im sure thats the kind if playwr who will be on our radar but it may be we have to go abroad.
Fully expect both Wilson and his former Bournemouth team mate Ryan Fraser to have a positive influence on Newcastles fortunes this season. They also signed left back Jamal Lewis from Norwich. Wilson ( aged 28) cost them £30 million and Lewis £10 million. The most impressive signing for me, was Fraser ( aged 26). He's been capped at full international level by Scotland and they managed to secure him on a free. With what they had already got and with the addition of these three new players I honestly can't see them struggling this term.
Physical players we've had over the years like Mitch Ward, Frimpong, Lawrence, Dawson, Addison, Gardner, Williams and Perkins have all been *****. I'd rather have an intelligent midfield player that can tackle. Last ones we had that were any good Anderson de Silva and to a lesser degree Colace.
Walton Collins Sollbauer Helik Andersen Halme Williams Diaby/u23 Ludewig Ritzmaier Oduor ??? ??? Palmer Styles Wolfe/Halme Mowatt Christie-Davies Woodrow Simoes ??? Chaplin The two XIs above would look pretty good to me, provided the midfielder and forward are 'physical' players. Both need to be able to hold the ball and tackle. Experience would be great, too. Wouldn't mind a young left wing back on loan, but we need someone.
