Did you realise it was his birthday today.
    80 years old.
    Happy birthday big man.
My memories of you and your 1970 World Cup winning side will remain with me forever.
    Total football.

Well actually I did along with every other team in the league.
At 14 years old and reading the Goal and Shoot magazines I did have football knowledge of many teams.

That final was the first game I saw on a colour tv. My auntie had just got one so we all piled along to watch the World Cup final.

Yes, for one beautiful and all too brief moment, it really was like watching Barnsley.
Seriously, thanks for pointing this out. there was a real joy to it all. The cold chill when I watch the England game with them though is that it would have been Tommy Taylor's swansong and I'd have fancied him to score with the pressure we had and got a least a draw. BTW for some bizarre reason whenever I talk to a Scotsman about international football, I feel compelled to say as a kid I cheered Gemill's goal in 1978 and dont get why (we) are supposed to like Ireland and wales and NI but not Scotland in recent years

Criminal how he was kicked out of the 1966 World Cup. Some of those tackles from 1970 were a bit naughty also.

Personal taste but much prefer him to Maradona or Messi.

Not quite as good as Ronnie, though.

I wasn’t born in 70 but I’ve seen the videos and they looked excellent, pele was something else. The 1st World Cup I recall was 82, loved watching that Brazilian team, For me, best team never to have won the World Cup.

Absolutely 100% correct sir! As I am an only a wee whipper snapper, I've only seen video footage of him but imho there has been no-one to match this brilliance in the last 50 years.
