After a game this season. How many times have any of us said..

    "That referee was poor"

    Anyone know?

Or more to the point, I'll ask it differently. When was the last time we had a good referee performance?

I like to think I stick up for refs more than most on here over the years. They have a tough job and have human error just like everyone does.

All that said the standard this season is the worst I have ever seen and by a very long way. Cadden being sent off was two players fairly going for the ball and at the time seeing it live I thought we were getting a free kick, but no booking for the Shrewsbury player.

Just a few matches ago at Oakwell, for last good ref. Can't remember which game though.

Unfortunately I’ve felt the need to say it quite a lot. It’s not all the mistakes per se, but those such as the incredible decisions like the non-penalty at Burton where the ref had a good view of the incident. They do themselves no favours by allowing themselves and their assistants to be constantly hounded all game. They treat players and teams differently, some are given far more leniency than others, which in my book is cheating. We saw Cadden sent off last game which you may agree or disagree with, but the point is it wasn’t the worst ‘challenge’ in the game.

I'm still not sure why Cadden was sent off. Can anyone explain it?

I haven't said it once all season. I do admit, the failure to give the penalty at Burton, and send the player off, was a very poor decision. But that's it. I've seen one really poor decision all season. And I've seen you lot act like lunatics every week. Whenever I come on here I think, be careful Jay, you've got to interact with the psychopaths again. Genuinely, that's what it feels like.

Wow, only 1 poor decision all season and the rest of us act like lunatics or even Psycopaths. I can only assume you’re a WUM with this post

I've watched it from at least 2/3 different angles and for the life of me can't see why it's red.. both players come together both go for the ball and the Shrewsbury player doesn't even limp when he gets up ...trust me if cadden had caught him as hard as he makes out he'd still be limping ...

It's as bad as the decision at Burton for me, I'm not getting it at all. Not even a foul in my eyes.

It’s all about the reaction - both the bloke getting tackled and his teammates.
Not sure we would have reacted much differently as it’s endemic in the professional game.

I have commented on occasions that the ref was decent, Wendy's and Plymouth being two where ya dint kno he was there. the liners scare me even more as they can watch the ball come off a player and go out but still look to the ref. Burton ref cost us dearly and the Shrewsbury ref should now be retired for life.

It’s a rare occurrence not to come away talking about the Ref, not sure the answer as they have a hard job but we seem to be at the wrong end of some absolute weapons.

Refs have a tough job. No doubt about it. Not helped by the laws of the game, not helped by the behaviour of players and staff. Not helped by the ridiculous amount of $hithousing that goes on. I don't think there's a conspiracy against us. No real reason for me to think that, once you take the emotion out of it. Got to assume other teams are generally on the wrong end of it as well. But the quality of officials in EFL is generally really poor IMO. Some of the displays and decisions against us this season have been astonishing. Genuinely think anyone not seeing that is going too far the other way in supporting refs.

Burton no goal, Portsmouth no goal, Larkeche's penalty against Accrington are three that immediately jump out at me. There will be more that I don't immediately recall. That's before we start on every penalty we haven't been given.

Surely nobody really believes that the referees are conspiring against us do they? This isn't post war Russia, we're just a small northern football club.

I'm not a regular attendee due to where I live, but I speak to my mum (ST holder) after most games, and I can guarantee that for the games we lose, the referee will be brought up. For the games we win, the officials don't even enter the conversation. I don't think this is a reflection on my mum though, I think it's the reaction of the crowd influencing the way my mum sees the game when we lose, and the sense of injustice after the match i.e. 'the referee was rubbish!' Despite having been to Old Trafford to witness that awful decision when Liddle got booted in the midriff, and the shambles of Willard, as I've grown older I've tried to both respect and ignore the match officials. If we win it's on merit, and if we lose, we were probably the weaker team on the day. The decision at Burton was very poor - it looked clear cut and the ref had a good line of sight. Had I been there, I may feel more aggrieved about it. The Cadden decision baffles me, but it also annoys me more because we lose him for 3 games. It has a longer lasing effect. Some might say dropped points at Burton had a lasting effect, but we had the rest of the game to overcome the poor refereeing decision and we didn't. I get the 'we would probably have scored the penalty and been against 10 men' argument, but - no disrespect to them - we were playing Burton, not Arsenal. We had the rest of the game to put it right. We can't however do anything about Cadden's suspension, other than appeal it and likely lose, and that bugs me.

Do I think there's a conspiracy against us? Definitely not. Do I think referees sometimes get it woefully, inexplicably wrong? Definitely. Are they human beings who make mistakes? Yes.
