We have an old telly in the kitchen. It's got built in Freeview, but no HD. It's been fine for years, but recently wherever we've been asked to re-tune for channel changes, we've ended up with less channels each time. Not only that, but the numbering is all over the place, so that for example Quest (channel 12) is appearing as channel 9.

I can literally see the Emley Moor mast from my front window, although my kitchen is at the back and the aerial is a pretty small thing - made from recycled coat hangers by the look of it.

Any ideas on whether it's the telly or the aerial?

Could be either but more likely an aerial problem. Have you got another naff indoor aerial that you can plug in temporarily and just compare the channel listing?

Why don’t you hook the tele up to a proper aerial tune it in and then buy a decent aerial for the kitchen.

A couple of good suggestions there. I'll give them a try and see how it goes. Thanks.

One of our sons has bought us a new telly for Christmas. It has Freeview built in.
We also pay for Virgin and when the tele was set up we noticed we could get all
the channels, but if we switched to Freeview some of the channels were missing.
The article on the BBC website seems to give a plausible reason as to why that could be happening.

I have been amazed with the sound and picture quality between our TV's. The one we were watching was
a 40" Samsung which we've had for around four years, whilst the new one is a 49" Sony Bravia.
The sound on the Sony is nothing short of sensational as is the picture quality.

get an aerial booster and a 4g filter, you can get a booster with a built in 4g filter, but you will still need an aerial too... some good set top ones out there.
