Went to the Bradford Alhambra last night to see The Carol King Musical. …….. It was Beautiful. All joking aside enjoyed every second, can remember exactly where I was when I heard the first track from Tapestry and still play it on a regular basis. Its an age thing.
Did you think the seats were a bit close together? I went to see Motown The Musical there and had to sit on the end of the row side saddle.
Saw that in The West End January 2019. I never liked Motown back in the day, but thoroughly enjoyed it, I even sang along....
I did too. The tickets were a Birthday gift from me to Laura. We stayed in Bradford for the weekend. Up until going I kept saying I was only going because Laura wanted to go but I loved it.
I went last year to Alhambra Bradford to see Beautiful and I was really impressed with the venue very art deco and a lovely bar
I'm currently reading "1971, Never a Dull Moment" by David Hepworth, in which there is a long piece about Carole King but more specifically 'Tapestry'. Tapestry recalibrated the record business, as in 1971 album sales weren't a big deal. Carole King didn't do solo performances at the time, she was James Taylor's piano player. She was relatively unique at the time in that that she wrote, arranged, played and sang. Tapestry sold 5 million copies in 1971 and has sold consistently since to 25 million to date. one of the biggest selling albums ever.
