My dad is an author and I reckon I’ve got a book or a script in me lurking somewhere. I quite enjoy creating nonsense characters of which there are quite a few in my head from over the years. I reckon a comedy based around kids junior football could be good - Jossy’s Giants meets Phoenix Nights kind of thing.
The big question here is whether all the characters stayed in your head or you've already unleashed some of them on the unsuspecting public....
I refuse to use Amazon since Bezos disappeared up Trump's back passage, is it available anywhere else?
Yes, I remember Rick Goby sending out the newsletter, back in the early 90s. I was still fairly new to the London branch and living in Brighton. I managed to convince my girlfriend to drive us up to Watford for a Tuesday night game (it cost me the price of a new coat for her in the Harlequin Centre in the afternoon!). When we went to the pub that Rick had mentioned we found it was no longer there and an MFI or something was standing there instead. It was the days before everyone had mobile phones, so we didn’t see the others till we got in the ground.
Cheers for bringing this up, should be a great read. Your mate sounds like he’s watched us over a similar period to me so be plenty to relate to.
First game was 78/79 - we took our first away trip to Anfield together. He's a good lad and the book is from the heart
A good first season that one. Mine was a bit earlier, 73/74. The Iley years weren’t much to write about anyway! I’ll definitely buy it to read on holiday in Portugal at end of September. Looking forward to it.
Bought the book, it arrived a few minutes ago, but it now has a blood stain in it! I have limited feeling below my neck (pesky spinal cord tumour), so I’m very accident prone. I burned a hole in my thumb the other day on a baking tray. I’ve left it uncovered, to get it to dry out. Funnily enough, about 30 seconds before retrieving the parcel from the letter box my daughter said it looked nasty and would be really sore, if I could feel it. And because I can’t feel my hands I tend not to realise when I’m burning them or cutting them, etc, and then forget that I’ve damaged them afterwards. So I ripped into the parcel with my left thumb, as I always do, and opened the wound up again, but as usual I didn’t realise this until I saw the blood. D’oh! So, Liverpool Red, you said you are in the book. Well, a bit of me is in it too now!
Does that make us blood brothers? Hope you enjoy it - he's a good lad. We had some great times growing up. Can you do me a favour and leave him a review please? It would be much appreciated
Hope the book does well but I can’t help but hate the title of the book. It screams Liverpool and not Barnsley at me. I get the meaning behind it due to Barnsley playing there 3x times, but a Barnsley book needs something “Barnsley” in the title. If I saw it on a shelf I’d not even pick it up if it makes sense due to the explanation above.
It does have the words Liverpool V Barnsley emblazoned above the title as well - that would make me pick it up and read the blurb on the back.
