How many of you still play the lottery? I stopped years ago. Large prizes going to 1, 2, 3 people sounds great...... if you're one of those 3. Supposedly around 32m people in the uk play the lottery every week, each buying 3 tickets each. So that's over 90m tickets sold per week. I don't know this for a fact, simply what one website was saying I've just read. But, how many of you would prefer a system that created more millionaire's - the jackpot being £1m, but created many many more winners - and reducing the ticket cost back down to a quid? I'd certainly be buying again, that's for sure.
Couldn't agree more. The first couple of million is the life changing element for most people. Oh I still play but not as much
they apparently did a study and found folk wanted bigger jackpots, thatin turn led to to the 10 extra numbers and therefore less chance of winning.
Not really. I have a pretty good understanding of probability and statistics and I still play from time to time.
Play now and again , couple of lucky dips. Most syndicates at work packed in ours just do Thunderball for now. Would see loads more playing if more millionaires were created instead of one multi imo.
Still play every week but cut from 2 lines to 1 when they doubled the price so not getting any more money from me. I keep telling myself to pack it in but there's always that small chance- but not if you are not in it
I'd be more than happy with £1m however there could be a million jackpots and I still wouldn't win any of them.
I'd be happy just to win the centenary society again - I only joined it to become category 1 for away tickets in the prem season and won it twice in the first year. I haven't had a sniff in the 17 years since then. That's nearly 900 draws - there's only 1500 numbers in the bloody draw each week. How on earth am I ever going to win the lottery!!
Agree mate, been in it from the start, won the grand twice and £500 holiday voucher, within first few years not had a sniff since 1993!
The Euro million draw is going up to £2:50 at the end of September and they are adding 1 ball to the lucky stars number this will increase the chance of winning to 140 million to 1
"Stupid" tax Only stupid - or desperate - people regularly contribute. The prize money should definitely be capped at £1M per winner. Why should it produce a very few fabulously wealthy people when it could make life-changing improvements to quite a number of people? I used to do it in a syndicate at a previous job, but only on the basis that if I didn't and they won, I'd be running the systems department on my own on the following monday morning.....
Re: "Stupid" tax If we all lived forever then I'd agree. But we don't, and people are happy to spend a couple of quid a week for the possibility of a life changing sum of money. It's a poor gamble from a purely mathematical perspective, but being a couple of quid a week worse off will make no difference to most people's quality of life, whereas the winnings would make a hell of a difference.
Re: "Stupid" tax Ok well put the £2 in a safe place each week and "win" the jackpot once a year and have a slap-up meal. And stop dreaming.
Re: "Stupid" tax It's not dreaming, it's taking a gamble that I consider to be worth it. Nothing more, nothing less.
All the statistics say that larger jackpots means more people play - regardless of odds. - rather than the bigger chance of winning less money. Who'd have thought. Also small convenience stores in poor areas take less on milk and bread and more on lottery tickets on the days of big jackpots.
