Fingers crossed for him he can earn himself a contract there and do both us and Raith a favour in the process
He played for about 60+ mins first couple of games then after that drppped to the bench and given minutes from then on so looks like he might have intially covering an injury in their team and that player came back or and dropped to the bench, he’s played a total of 249 mins whilst in Scotland and scored twice,
Another one of our non achieing great academy hopes.. DKD ort to be a bit of an inspiration to Marshy and others tho. Went round half a dozen clubs before finding himself at Mansfield in his mid twenties.. A lot of people presume that all young players will just get better.. That's obviously not and never has been true. The problem with putting all your eggs (and money) in the academy basket.. if you got one a year breaking through.. you'd say great ok production line. But we've been miles off that.. not even a trickle
I know there's been numerous threads saying he's not good enough and to get shut. Personally I think the opposite, there's a good player in there, who needs an arm putting around him, and a little guiding. He was no worse than anybody else under Clarke , but yet he got frozen out, for the more experienced squad members We've seen under CH he's prepared to bring the academy lads through and give them a chance, therefore for me, bring him home, and give him another chance with Conor at the helm. The lad always puts a shift in when he plays. Having watched his game, I came to the conclusion all he needed to do, was be a little more greedy with the ball in front of goal and he'd soon be hearing his name shouted from the ponty, but what do I know, its just my observations and opinion for what it matters
He always puts a shift in that's for sure. I know everyone wants him to succeed here because he's a local lad and barnsley fan. But he's 22 next month so hardly a kid now he needs regular games well he has done for years imo that's what's hindered his development. The Scottish championship isn't a great standard of football. But hopefully he can be a regular there and work his way up.
They love him at Raith ,want him on the field more. Maybe it would be good for Raith and Marshy ,he isn't good enough at BFC apparently.
I'm sure the Barnsley faithful would have loved him more, if he hadn't been frozen out by Clarke But it's good to see him doing well with Raith. Personally I think letting Marshy go would be the wrong decision and we could find ourselves regretting it, later on Another Geoff Horsefield situation maybe..one we missed out on years ago Geoff was offered a trial for Barnsley FC at Oakwell, his boyhood club - but it wasn't to be. Geoff said: “I knew that I was good enough to play there - it was just that my face didn't fit.
Think we would have loved him more if he showed some promise when given opportunities. That’s the make or break sometimes of becoming a pro footballer.
I didn’t think he was good enough, until I saw the strikers we have payed for and are paying - I can’t imagine he’d do a worse job than Humphries or especially Watters.
Think the world of him as a lad, he’s just a great kid and a credit to his family, the town and this club. I also think he’s better than many believe. He’d have done no worse than the other forwards we’ve used, barring DKD, had he had 30 to 40 games. However, I hope he moves on. For himself. He really needs to find somewhere where he can start, week in week out.
Whilst I personally wouldn't be against giving him more time, I think a large portion of the fan base would be extremely toxic towards him. Grumble, piss & moan, boo at every tiny mistake he makes, back pass he does etc.
