So this season we're recruiting en masse and rightly so, but what are people's views on getting maybe 2 or 3 in on a season long loan? I'm thinking more cover for likes of Dougall and perhaps up front. I'm not sure we will as it will effectively take players out of the shop window? If we do, Id rather we not have anyone whereby we have to play them for X amount of games (unless it is reasonable).
Dunno mate, I guess it'll depend on what kind of formation he plays. If he's wanting a DM he might need more cover. That was more an example to be honest. Just wondering if people would want the squad fleshing out a bit with 2-3 loanees. Likes of Izzy Brown, Tammy Abraham etc have done well as youngsters at this level. Would be nice to have the next versions of them.
Think they are different players. We don't have another midfielder like Dougall who is positionally very good, breaks up play and also has decent distribution. I think that role will be more important next season when we are likely to see less of the ball.
Genuinely Mateo. I believe Styles has the qualities you mention. But what gives him the edge for me his is box to box game. Not knocking Dougall but I believe Styles could become a fans favorite. ( Just bloody jinxed him now. )
I liked the policy of last season where we signed Woodrow & Bahre on loan with a view to making the deals permanent at a later date. If we're to bring in players on a season long loan, then hopefully, if they do well, they are contracted to stay for the entire campaign. We were told both Sam Morsy & Harvey Barnes were season long loans, but their parent clubs recalled them in the January window. I'd prefer us not to run the risk of that happening again. You also highlighted the issue of bringing in a player from a club who insist the lad must play ifor a particular percentage of games. Again, I'd prefer us not to persue that type of loan deal.
I do hope you're right. Not seen too much of styles myself but did have him down as more of a playmaker than defensive mid. Either way I do think he is an exciting prospect. But I would be surprised to see him starting many games next season.
I hope he doesn't win Hoyland Reds player of the year award or that'll be another one gone.Jinx or what.
Well stendel said he wanted experience the only way we will bring in a experienced championship player who isn't past it and can benefit the team will be via a loan. So maybe that could be a option to look into.
The strategy doesn’t allow for loans anymore unless there’s a transfer fee agreed in our favour so this is unlikely. I think we’ll still see some fringe players sign to replace the Hedges/Isgrove types.
I’d welcome a Matty James or 2 and maybe (shock horror) an even older head with experience at Championship level and above. I know our ‘model’ doesn’t care much for age but there should always be room for a good non-journeyman old ‘un. Think Hendrie, Jan Arge, Wilko...
Im just so glad we have got rid of the cryne model of bringing in bang average loans to get them fit again or putting themselves in shop window for a transfer. I know we had a few gems like barnes and oli but we had alot more rubbish which took up squad places from our own young players. Im not a massive fan of the spreadsheet but stopping the loans was a huge step forward.....
Definitely agree that we are better off without average loans. Would need to be someone along likes of McBurnie IMO. It needs to benefit us just as much if not more than the parent club.
I think we'd only do a loan, if there was an option to sign at the end. That would rule out any players over 25 I guess. I agree Dougall is a key figure as he sits in front of the back 4, whereas Styles looks more of a box to box type. Maybe he can cover that role though. He's impressed me every time he's come on.
It sounds a good idea in principle, but I'd be surprised if we go down that route. I'd have been happy last year to take Adam Hammill in such a role, but he wouldn't get anywhere near the current first team now.
I don't like this "holding midfielder" nonsense. It's a glorified centre back. Just go whole Hog and play three centre backs. I like a midfielder who can do it all. Box to box. It isn't hard to pass, shoot and tackle.
This reminds me of when people who don’t like football say “they get all that for kicking a ball of air around all day”.
