Or ............. any one of the other 11? Why ask the question of Rooney? What's he done wrong?

Why Henderson? Why Lallana? Rooney has been decent so far.

Youve gotta be on a wind up there? Im no fan of Henderson but he's done nowt wrong so far and Lallana's been our best player by some distance.

Rooney on the other hand has been absolutely, disgustingly poor as usual.

Adam Lallana is probably the most on form English player this season. He's been exceptional for Liverpool.

I've always been baffled by this argument.

Agreed Lallana was a poor example. But the constant obsession with Rooney seems over the top.

The constant obsession by managers picking Rooney no matter what seems over the top to me

This is what I've been arguing about for ages, Rooney may be a bit of an idiot, he may play for the/one of most hated clubs in England and he may have underwhelmed in tournaments consistently for his country and club (in the last few years) but even when it's someone else's fault it some how comes back to Rooney and if there's anything that annoys me most about football fans then it's the fact we'll criticise a player just because he's there

Then again, commentators never highlight when Rooney plays a simple ball straight out of play or gives it for the umpteenth time. He gets a very easy ride of it and he's not been good enough for years.

Definitely watchng a different game to me. In his day Rooney has been a good player for England. That day is clearly done. He has been awful throughout.

No they don't but is that Rooney's fault or the media, good enough for who exactly last time I checked neither of his club or country are anyway better than middle of the range teams

And he's captain of both and until recently been seemingly undroppable at both. Shows you his level and someone at both Man Utd and England need to grow the danglers to see him permanently gone in order for both teams to move forward.

No I do agree. He's actually been decent tonight. Some of his vision when spraying passes out wide has been exceptional. He looks to get us moving as opposed to Henderson and Sterling who seem content with passing the ball along the half way line for 90 minutes.

The problem is the only player in the England set up who's genuienly good enough to play No10 is Lallana and he does so much work around the pitch sometimes he struggles to get in the areas where he's most needed. Personally got nothing against Rooney but he should play no more than a bit part in any England match from now on and should only start on merit, as should the rest of the team, if his club form improves. No question after 2018 World Cup should retire. Don't really care about his club form after that

He's done even less than Rooney and certainly isn't as good, overrated because he was young, english and played for Everton, not even half the play of Dele Alli and Alli's alot more versatile as well
