Probably the last time we’ve seen him in a red shirt.

What an unlucky time, for him and us. A fit, on form player could have been the difference between us going up the last couple of seasons (ok maybe not last season).

I guess there’s a slim chance of him staying on vastly reduced wages, which honestly might not be the worst punt to see if we can finally get him fit.

If not, all the best Josh - I don’t think you’re at fault in any way for how things panned out here. Sometimes you don’t get what you deserve.

With the transfer fee and wages for what little we got in return, he can't be far off Oulare for waste of money. Big difference is for Benson it's because he's made of biscuit.

Great lad, very talented, but it's time to move on.

It would be very Barnsley if he gets fixed up elsewhere and plays 46 league games next season. And I hope that's the case.

Completely different scenarios. Don't put no blame on the club or Benson for what's happened. I put all the blame Oulare + Lee/Conway for Oulare... Shocking transfer

All the talent in the world but not been able to realise his potential and absolutely impossible to stay fit.

what might have been but yes time to part ways.

He’s likely to help get that team promoted and get a hat trick against us as well….

Not Benson's fault but if we take a "punt" he may get fit we will seriously be losing the plot. Time to clear everyone we can who's contract is up with maybe a year extension for Humphrys? Rebuild time and we need all the wage savings we can muster.

Who was the player who went to Rotherham and did just that, constantly on the treatment table with us? I'm sure he signed in the summer for them and turned out about 30 times. Now what's going round my head is Blackburn Rovers, New Zealand, Ryan and Williams. I did a quick going search for Ryan Williams and got an NFL player so l couldn't be arsed.

A really gifted footballer. On the odd times he's played I've enjoyed watching him. When fit he is well above third division level. I hope he stays, but even. If he moves it begs the question who will take him with such a poor record of injury?

Ryan Williams is correct. He’s an Aussie though.

I’ve said before on here that I really like Benson and if he could just stay fit, he’d easily be one of our best players in my opinion.

However, we are never going to get that if he can’t play more than 8 games in a row for us. I would imagine he’s just as frustrated as us with how his time here has gone.

I fully wish him all the best and hope the next club he plays for, whatever level it is, he can stay fit.

Wish him all the best, but his future isn't with us. We simply can't afford wages on someone who only plays a dozen games a season.

At the time, some Burnley fans I chat with, said we've got a talented player there.
So give him regular game time and look after him etc, and he'll do well for you.
Was that a sneaky way of saying they are happy to get rid, because he's really injury prone!!.

I'd keep him, but on vastly reduced terms with incentives.

I remember Mowatts first season struggle and his epiphany moment that led to him spending a summer sorting himself out in the gym and personal trainer.

I believe that if Benson still has the fire in his belly (only he knows) then just have a short summer, punish yourself with a tough regime and come back and smash it.

My biggest issue with Benson is that he spent a year being absolutely bone idle for us. Regardless of his later injuries he was absolutely bone idle for a year so even if he got back fit long term there's always doubts over `what level of effort you're going to get

But Mowatt was one season. Benson hasn't been able to stay long term fit for four years.

He'd left Leeds after a couple of seasons of been off the pace (yet still young) and was woefully out of shape when he joined us. It was to his eternal credit he turned it around and made the career he has.

All I was suggesting was that Josh 'could' do the same. The ball is in his court. His alternative is a lower salary, in L1 / 2 for the rest of his career, playing 15 games a season, always wondering what might have been.

Hard to imagine anyone risking a contract of more than one year with his injury record. Someone will take a chance but imagine it’ll be low salary with add ons for actual appearances.
Ironic thing is, if fit, he’s just the type of hard working midfielder we need. Not suggesting for a moment that we offer him a deal btw….

That's the guy, in his two year contract with us he made 21 apps including subs, his 2 year contract with Rotherham 81 apps.

We appear to be a club that always has a long term injured or regularly injured player on the books. Now is the time to clear the decks and try to avoid anymore passangers.
