Im also fully aware that Mawson was probably the best centre half we've had in 20 years so replacing him isnt easy. Im just a bit concerned as to why very little of the money we sold him for was used to bring in a ready made replacement. McDonald needs time and I'm guessing Jackson does too otherwise he'd be starting. Last year, being the best side in the league, we could afford to bed a youngster or two in, this year we need everyone at 100%.

I'd swap the two. Nothing against Angus he has done ok but it's a steep learning curve and i'd like to see what Jackson can do and give Angus a rest.

Mawson certainly isn't the best CB we've had in the last 20 years because we've got still got his partner from last season who is a better CB, also don't forget about a Mr Stones who despite not really playing CB for us was still our player and is streets ahead of Mawson

I've got to agree. We invested a lot in an experienced midfielder (Moncur) and an experienced striker (Bradshaw) and ought to have done the same with an experienced defender. I can't for the life of me understand why we didn't at least bring Kevin Long in. It might seem a very long 3 months before we can remedy that. It has to be said though that we've spent almost £1.5 million on a bench warmer, loaned out player and raw teenager so far. If we had spent money on an experienced defender it might not have been spent wisely.

    A. Roberts is nowhere near the standard of Mawson, never has been and probably never will be. He's a very good defender but he will never have the technical ability that Mawson had on top of his defensive ability.
    B. Stones played about 20 games for us, mostly at right back
    C. Mawson is better on the ball than Stones. Whether or not he makes the same impact at the top level, I dont know but I'd stick my neck out and predict he'll play for England in the not too distant future.

Mawson is no better on the ball than Martin cranie was. He also used to dribble the ball out of defence and pass long up the field with pretty good accuracy. Mawsn gave the ball away a LOT with piss poor attempts at passes on the edge of the box

I think Mawson needs to be good enough to play for Swansea before he's considered good enough to play for England.

Defending wise, Roberts is the best for years. If he can't pass then it goes. How it should be.

    A. In terms of physicality, defending and leadership abilities Roberts is a much better defender than Mawson, yes Mawson is much superior with the ball and has more of future because of his age, but Roberts is a better CB.
    B. Yes but he is a CB and we he was our player therefore, he was a CB that we have had so.
    C. Don't talk crap, Stones is the one of the best ball playing CB's in the World who plays for a team that will all most definitely win the Prem this year. And in all seriousness, I like ALF he was a quality CB but I'd stick my neck out and say he won't play for England and he certainly won't captain them like Stones will.

Love the way those players born in Barnsley are automatically so much better than those who arent...

Kevin Long isn't experienced in the Championship though so it contradicts what you've said. I would have liked to see him back in a Barnsley shirt though.

If you genuinely think Roberts is better than Mawson then either seek help or start watching the Sheffield Steelers, because quite clearly, football isnt for you.

He's a better defender in my opinion. Mawson has a lot of weaknesses in his game defensively.

I think what he meant was someone who would be ready to step straight into the first team and be ready for this level. He's played Championship football and league one with us last year so it'd be a similar step to what the rest of the squad has took. MacDonald and Jackson are being asked to make a huge step up.

No it doesn't. I never said championship experience. Hence the references to Moncur and Bradshaw. Read it again and concentrate this time.
