'borrow' a manager (OGS)who had just signed a 3 year contract with his existing club Molde, with all assurances that he would go back, then suddenly announce, they have now signed him permanent basis. Takes tapping up to an whole new level!
Not really tapping up at all. His molde contract was cancelled when he went to Man Utd. They will have been compensated.
Is that why when he left Molde said they wanted to make it absolutely clear that it was only a stop gap measure and they fully expected him to be back with them?
I understand it was all fairly amicable. I read that the owner of Molde told OGS that he hoped he didn't come back in a jokey way (i.e. saying he hoped he got the job full time)
I think the job should have been offered to Paul Heckingbottom instead of Solksjaer. He's reinventing the wheel at Hibernian. They'll be champions of Europe in three years.
United don't have to give Molde anything but are apparently giving them six million as a gesture of goodwill.
Solskjaer confirmed his Molde contract was cancelled when he went to United as even on an interim basis he couldn’t be contracted to two clubs as coach. Molde said what you quote - but they would have had to have given him a new contract if he returned. It is for this reason that United don’t owe any further compensation to that they already paid, which was only nominal. They have however agreed to give them £6million, purely as goodwill.
I see to celebrate them announcing a permanent manager the William Hills website has enhanced them from 11/10 to 6/4 for a top four finish, which is a great offer. They should win the next four starting with Watford at home this weekend. That's followed by two tough games against City and Chelski but they are both at home. Then they have the perfect finish against Huddersfield and Cardiff.
