"The Aboriginal flag will now permanently fly on one of Australia's most iconic landmarks, after a five-year campaign by advocates. Earlier this year, the New South Wales (NSW) state government announced it would add the flag - and a new pole - to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. But this would take up to two years and cost A$25m (£14m; $17m), it said. After a backlash, officials said they would immediately display the flag on an existing pole instead."
2 years to put a flag up? Is it being erected by the same people who are doing the new railway bridge in town?
I can just imagine the 'official' tab behind his ear, sucking air through his teeth and writing quote on back of *** packet, saying how stuff is always going up
It's indicative of the blatant disregard that Australia has for its indigenous people, unfortunately. The timeframe and cost were most likely by design to whip up anti-indigenous Australian sentiment. Luckily it's backfired and common sense has prevailed. Very sad to see such backward thinking in such a stunning and diverse country. Was ever thus sadly.
