From the highlights, we looked great in the first half. Played some brilliant football, with a bit of poor finishing letting us down, particularly from the front two. That being said, Schmidt looked a lot more involved than he does when he's thrown on to grab a goal when we're chasing a game. Starts have been limited for him, and I'd wager, he's probably only been used a handful of times when we're in front. He looked sharp and got involved. I think it helped having someone who's very industrious in the number 10 role behind him. I know there's a lot of criticism of playing a 15 goal striker at the tip of the diamond, but when Woodrow's on it, he does that role really well.

Styles looked classy, begs the question why he didn't get a run in the team sooner. Thomas looked to drive the team forward too.

2nd half, from the highlights we looked a lot sloppier in midfield, and played a bit more direct, but overall I thought we gave a good account of ourselves. Chaplin and Simoes linked up well, and Wolfe looks a physical lad considering his age.

    Good to have football back!

I thought the Crewe number 4 looked a cracking little player....I hadn't realised we were playing in white until the goal!!

I think it's just the pattern on the white kit which puts me off. Looks a bit cheap. I couldn't tell either way from the highlights where styles played but Doug O' Kane suggests it was 3412 with styles and Ludewig at wing back. Which we have played a fair bit towards the end of the season to be fair.

Yeah, up close the pattern does look quite cheap. Had it been an indentation in the material, I think it would have been better.

That formation suggests we would have played Jordan Williams at centre half, and I don't feel like that's where he was. Suppose we could have moved formations during the half, like we did away at Luton.

    Oh the poor things.
Fancy going through your whole life as nonentities, nondescript, unknown.
Still, I suppose it's what society has become. I blame the parents.

Sole, Mads and Jordan played as a back three. In possession they are very stretched across that back line, so Sole and Jordan are like full backs. Out of possession they’re narrower. The wingbacks are like wingers in possession and full backs out of possession. Mowatt and Thomas sat in the centre of the pitch, with the front three all interchanging positions, but Woodrow dropping deeper at times. It’s a very fluid system.

Styles, Mads and Jordan were the pick of the players for me yesterday.

Cheers Andy for a bit of clarity.. I do hope folk would now stop putting players in boxes.. the new signings, "where does he play" types. Its clear the players who are here and future signings, that they will be asked to play and will play in a verity of roles from game to game and during the ninety minuets

I don’t want to put a dampner on proceedings - but one of the same owd problems persists - quick players finding and running into space but passes going forward are not accurate enough.
How many times do we see this during these highlights ???
We won’t be successful this season until we improve on this problem.

Think I agree with you. He looked pretty decent in that attacking wing back role. As you say, Cafu-esque!!!!

Good to see the gaffer wearing club gear on the touchline. I suppose it doesn't mean anything but it does look better than his usually man at C&A attire :)

Totally agree with you on this. Woodrow should be playing where Browny plays too. From that video Browns touch and finishing were appalling, I get that he provides crosses and works his blood to water but he should never be playing as a striker.

I disagree. I like the Matalan model look. It’s unique.

I thought our number 15 looked very good - presume that is Frieser who has taken Jordan Green's number - is that right?
Some nice turns and lay-offs, no wasted passes. He's got a first-eleven vibe about him.
