He's 33, of course he's going to refuse and he's perfectly entitled to hold his employer to the terms of the contract they freely agreed. So long as he's putting effort into training etc. I don't see the issue with it.
He'll be lucky to get £4k a week anywhere else, so why would he agree to cancel? Nice work if you can get it!
Why should he? They were daft enough to offer him 40k a week, all he's doing is sticking to his contract. The club are trying to force him out and the claims that he turned up for pre season training "unfit" are daft seen as it was only a matter of 2 kilos to lose.
I've a feeling that this is what's happened with Leya Iseka. He's signed a lucrative contract, club are trying to freeze him out but it's having no effect. Difference being that people slate him for doing it.
If he was unfit, the club would have metrics from training they could measure against - say last season - and show that he was 1 second slower over 100m, or he was failing to complete a bleep test, or something. Couldn't they...?
Or they could release statements saying he's turned up unfit for pre season in the headline in an attempt to put pressure on him as a result of him not wanting to terminate his contract. Also means trying to turn the narrative, the fans and the media against Arter by painting him in a bad and unprofessional light. What's unprofessional to me is to get a player to sign a 4 year contract and then complain when that player won't terminate that agreement early. If they truly had reason to think he was being professional I'm sure they would have grounds for disciplinary and maybe even termination from their end. The fact that they haven't gone down this route speaks volumes I feel.
So he had one offer, that was from an unnamed Saudi team but were only willing to pay £1k a week. Why would he give up such a large chunk, even more so as it ends this season and is unlikely to even get another club at 33/34 by then. Oh and any Championship club as Forest were willing to pay £40k a week deserve everything they get.
Because he's entitled to the money as it's from a legal contract offered to him. He would be silly to take a huge payout by going somewhere else.
My post was a bit tongue in cheek folks! I agree he is 100% entitled to refuse it. I do feel it's a sad situation though in the grand scheme. Under different circumstances I'd rather play regular football, as it doesn't last forever.
Whilst this is just speculation in the first place, it's completely different. Arter is 33 and in his twilight years with no hope of anything bigger or better, Iseka had the potential to be fair.
But for him to still be on the books here, despite not being given any game time for the best part of 2 years, he must not have got a more lucrative offer elsewhere. In both situations, both players are at clubs who don't want them, presumably earning a wage they can't get elsewhere. Can't blame either really.
Winston Bogarde – Chelsea Probably the most infamous case of the money-making bench-warmer, Winston Bogarde made just nine appearances in his four years at Chelsea between 2000 and 2004. The defender arrived at Stamford Bridge with an impressive CV, having won the Champions League with the legendary Ajax team of 1995 before spells at AC Milan and then Barcelona under Louis van Gaal. Earning a reported £40,000 a week during his spell with the Blues, Bogarde insisted on honouring his contract despite being forced to train with the youth team. “This world is about money, so when you are offered those millions you take them,” he explained. “Few people will ever earn so many. I am one of the few fortunates who do. I may be one of the worst buys in the history of the Premiership, but I don’t care.”
