No, he's not a 'great' keeper ......... .... he's a very hesitant keeper who daren't come off his line and puts the shits up me, and the back four, everytime the ball is knocked anywhere near the 18 yard line. He has made some great saves and also dropped some real clangers, he's very average at best PS. If he was a 'great' keeper, he'd get in the Republic of Ireland team when both Shay Given and Paddy Kenny are missing, but he doesn't, he's still on the bench!
The problem with Colgan Like I have said before, is that he makes one or two great saves in a mtch and everyone conveniently forgets that shot stopping is his ONLY real forte. He's by no means an all round keeper. I think that's why it was good to see Lucas play for a change - us playing it from the back by throwing it out to the full-backs was a breath of fresh air!
Colgan is probably the best we have tho lucas may turn out to be a star... but can we change keepers this late in the season ?
RE: No, he's not a 'great' keeper ......... He was a great keeper at Cardiff, that's less than a year ago, what's changed? True he is poor on crosses, but so are a lot more keepers. It's how the opposition players try and restrict any movement by our goalkeeper that makes coming out difficult, having said that he puts the sh*t's up me.
RE: No, he's not a 'great' keeper ......... great ??? letting robinsons shot slip through him was not great... the penalty save was of course ! there lies a keeprs life .. zero to hero and back again all in 90 minutes!!
RE: No Balls Simon Davey..... lucas played half a match and kept a clean sheet against a team that didn't even have a shot at him. not exatly best stats in world. if u are going by lucas keeping clean sheet second half then colgan kept clean sheet in first half
Not Knocking Colgan But......... he's been the only regular all season in the second worst defence in the league. That fact alone to me makes me believe playing Lucas would do neither goalie any harm. Plus Lucas comanded his box so good (after a understandable nervy start) that Hull didn't have a chance to shoot at him. Lets give Lucas a chance, who's done nothing wrong to be dropped.
RE: Not Knocking Colgan But......... colgan has done nothing wrong to be dropped. what did u expect him to do at southampton? save 2 penalties that referee gave them?
At Southampton I expected Colgan to save the first goal which went under his arm and the second which was a floating cross headed in from 6 yards
Done Nothing Wrong ? He's by far the most regular in the second worst defence in the league. Surely he deserves some blame for that. Not saying he's the worst person in the back end of the team. I am just saying a change of goalie might improve our neverimproving goal difference.
Very harsh The first goal was struck like a rocket and went through a crowd of players. Not much he could have done with a free header directed into the corner from 6 yards either.
RE: Maybe come off his line to catch it? Perhaps.... collecting crosses isn't exactly one of his strengths though is it. From memory, there were two defenders stood next to Jones for the goal who stood and watched him nod it in.
ALL keepers drop clangers from time to time I am sure you can all think of examples where this has happened, even the best International keepers do it. There are in addition those goals that every fan thinks should have been saved but in reality the keeper has no chance. Lucas seems OK on what we have seen so far but for me Colgan is our No1 Keeper and if he is fit then he should keep his place. Remember I for one was all for Scott Flinders having his chance, but in hindsight leaving Colgan in was the right choice...... If it aint broke dont try to mend it.
