Re: I still don't understand why he signed for us. I never knew about that. I wonder if he ever told my Dad about his past, because they were good drinking mates at The Wilthorpe for a time. If he did though my Dad never mentioned it.
Re: I still don't understand why he signed for us. It was during an era before a crap Belgian footballer went to the EC of J. In those days of no agents, there was no need to sell unless the price was right.
In todays world he would be another Vaz Te - probably come to us on a 1 year deal with a release clause. so doubt we would be able to sell him for more than £1million If by some miracle we had him on a 3 year contract who knows - we wouldnt have got 27Million for him though - he was unproven at Prem level and he was 28 when he joined us - doubt we would have got more than £5million for him today
I'm sorry but in any era a L1/Championship midfielder is not worth £27m no matter if he scores goals or not. If he was that good, he wouldnt have been at Barnsley, simple as that. I've no doubt he was a very good player but **** me... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I've no doubt he was a very good player but **** me... but **** me.. What when theres dogs on the street .....i dont think so ....lol
Totally agree. We've had loads of great players at different levels, Redfearn, Higgy, Banks, McCarthy, Hammill, to name a few, but he was the best I've seen & I've been watching since 74.
Poetry in emotion. Made the world a better place. Best player I've seen play for us. In the modern world we wouldn't keep him for longer than a year actually he wouldn't come at all.
He may not be worth 27 million in today's market but people are talking about that he was one of the best players they've seen in a Reds shirt.
No people are talking about if Benteke is worth £27m then what would Glavin be worth. About £5m would be my estimation for a good league 1/championship level midfielder. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
He was way above Championship level. I think his lifestyle & attitude stopped him playing for a Man Utd or Aston Villa, because he was good enough. He scored some amazing individual goals. It is hard making comparisons, but £5 million is a joke. You obviously never saw him play.
No you`re wrong, Ronnie would most certainly have played at a lot higher level if it hadn`t have been for his past history.
