Chris and Carlo from the popular 'Football Report' Reds radio show of last season will be hosting a charity evening at the East Dene WMC from 6.30pm. Fiver in, which gets you in the raffle too for some great prizes. In support of Barnsley Hospice and the Dan Wilkinson fund. Brian Howard, Bobby Hassell and Martin Devaney on stage to talk Barnsley with you. Ale on tap. Should be a good evening. I'll be there for the first hour or so, be good to see you there. You Reds.
If he is living locally he needs to be on the coaching team with Martin and Bobby, even if it is only part time. A player with his skills and experience can pass on plenty to the young lads. I'm all for ex-players being involved with the club. Keeps the "family" ethos going. There will always be players who come in for a year or two then move on, never putting down any roots. The long-serving ones are a rarity and should be cherished, provided they are good at doing their job. We (well, most of us at least) offer a lifetime commitment to the club. It's good when players can do the same.
Not suggesting for one minute that we are. I didn't know that he was an agent but, if he is, then clearly coaching is not for him. My original statement stands though - there is nothing wrong with recruiting people with a connection to the club, provided they are up to the job obviously.
