Does not look strong to me.

Balance recalled yet has no form second half of season

James Vince? What has he done to earn a recall? Averaging 34 for his county with the bat.

Mason Crane. Shows how limited we are for good English spinners.

My 11 based on the squad in full would be-

    Cook
    Stoneman
    Malan
    Root
    Stokes
    Bairstow
    Ali
    Woakes
    Broad
    Ball
    Anderson

Let's just hope our main players stay fit as the back up looks weak.

I am.pleased however England have stuck with Stoneman as opener with Cook as his form alone deserves it plus Ben Foakes for the same reason as back up wicket keeper.

Too much inexperience and a lack of form in other areas does concern me.
We are however taking on a poor Aussie team if you take out Warner and Smith they too have not much in terms of batting quality.

Not enough wicketkeepers in the squad.

Shows how limited we are if Malan is in the squad.

the warm up games will be a shoot out between Ballance and Malan for who gets the nod at number 5, 3 seamers are enough with stokes at the 4th although id love to see some real pace in the team, its a shame plunkett doesn't move the ball around as with his pace he would be a great pick.

I cannot work out the selectors way of thinking.

If they are going on form and fitness then way have the likes of Jack Leach and Jamie Porter not been considered?

The squad is seriously short of good batsmen . The pressure on Cook and Root to score the runs will be massive . Mason Crane must be pretty good to get in before Rashid .

20 years of age and possibly thrown into the lions den of a test down under should Moen get injured or ill. Madness.

Also think with Mark Wood and Roland-Jones injured that Liam Plunkett should have been considered..Tall fast bowler used in short bursts.

We've got a decent first 11 but if 2/3 under perform we can't add any quality . Mark Wood is a decent shout but he just doesn't get enough wickets at test match level and also he's injury prone . I would have had Hales in as well as Rashid . You can't carry rookies like Mason Crane on an Ashes tour .

Having seen that footage I will be surprised if he goes down under now. Not the actions of an England vice captain. Hemsie will be foaming at the mouth.

Hemsie hasn't come on and started his own thread about this yet..
... he's signed himself into the priory, before he commits some kind of major life changing substance abuse.
Oh and comes up with 29 under 16 Chelsea or man city cricketers, that should be in the squad..

    Bless him

As an avid viewer of Nothing to Declare, I'm not sure the Aussies will let him in after seeing that.

The ECB have suspended both Hales and Stokes from International cricket until
further notice following the incident in Bristol.
