I posted this buried in a prior thread. However i thought it deserved its own thread to allow people to keep it updated and see how the EFL performs on FFP and its against its own rules.

    Starting this season .....

Sept - Cardiff transfer ban after failing to pay Sala installments.
5th Sept - Leeds raise concerns over Derby FFP issues
    - 16th Oct - EFL 'step up' investigation into Wed and Derby and appoint a QC
    - 14th Nov - Sheff Wed Charged with breach of rules
    - 16th Jan - Derby charged - yes charged with breech of spending rules (March 2019 Birmingham were deducted 9 points for similar offences)
    - Feb - EFL and all clubs meet where FFP and spending is on the agenda
    - 20th March - Independent committee dismiss charge against Birmingham City for misconduct imposed by EFL for profitability and sustainability issues - EFL Appeal (See below)
    - 25th May - Barnsley state they won't accept relegation in letter to EFL about their inability to deal with the Derby, Wed etc issues
    - Jun 8th - EFL have a club meeting and vote on how season should end. Barnsley table a proposal (voted on) that no club should be relegated for not finishing the season. Tranmere also submitted a proposal. The EFL proposal won the vote to end the league placings with PPG should the season have to end. It didn't end of course.
    - 11th Jun - EFL win appeal re Birmingham City. Despite the profit and sustainability charges being upheld, the EFL imposed no points deduction penalties and deemed a reprimand was enough.
    - 24th June - Wigan appoint new owners - Fit & Proper test (Self certification BTW) passed
    - 1st July - Wigan enter Admin and have a 12 point penalty pending league position (another 15 its imposed if the new owners dont pay creditors 25%)
    - 27th July - EFL issue letter to Charlton asking questions on, and for clarity of their ownership setup
    - 31st July (Day) - Wigan appeal heard. Barnsley presents some input.
    - 31st July (Evening) - Sheff Wed points deduction imposed and deferred to 20/21 season.
    - 3rd August - Cardiff request date for commission hearing in transfer ban. Delayed from May due to COVID.
    - 4th August - Wigan lose appeal against 12 Point deduction and are relegated.
    - 7th August - EFL reject 3 individuals in their ownership applications under their owners and directors test for Charlton Athletic. 12th August Charlton fire their club solicitor Chris Farnell who has been reported to be one of the applicants

    ...... to be continued ......

What I do not understand is that even though Wednesday's offence was committed before Wigan's, Wigan's punishment is immediate and Wednesday's is deferred.

I have read Animal Farm so is the answer "everyone is equal but some are more equal than others"?

Hahah yeah. The Birmingham tap on the wrist seems to have gone unnoticed especially as its not first offence in past few seasons. Looks like they are waiting on a busy news day to sneak the Derby news out too.

Because Wigan’s is clearly defined in the rules 12 point penalty for going into administration applied in the season it happed unless relegation was happening anyway. Entering Administration is a defined event

Wednesdays needed investigation and the penalties are not so rigidly defined. I think it should have been applied this season but it’s not clearly defined in EFL regs

Thanks. So to continue with the fittingly appropriate Animal Farm analogy, the pigs have benefited from a little wriggle room.

Updated (remember tracking Championship related activity). Otherwise Macclesfield could have been reported too.

Different offences. Going into administration is more black and white.

I still hope Charlton go for it and with success.
