It's cheap and saves lives, so hopefully any Covid hospital admission will get the treatment on arrival regardless of the level of seriousness. If we have to wait for a vaccine, having a number of treatments available that get us back to old life sooner is much needed.
It is only effective with patients who have Covid-19, who are dependent on ventilation to assist breathing.
yes, brilliant news and all credit to the scientists/medics for thinking outside the box. I think I'm right in saying that drugs are initially licensed for specific conditions but once licensed they can be used for other things - not sure if approval from NICE is necessary here. The problem re vaccine is that it is incredibly difficult to meet the standard to get it approved and licensed - and cost will play a part as well.
We need some good news that's for sure. Today the number of fatalities has gone down for an 8th consecutive Tuesday and by 18% from last week. Hancock appears to be blowing his own trumpet about it because 200,000 of it were stockpiled months ago. We are extremely lucky that our scientists are ahead of the game with both vaccines and possible treatment.
They are getting better at keeping people alive, which is part of the reason why the death rate is falling.
