How come our CEO was quoted as saying early doors said the agreed fee was in line with what we had paid for players in recent times? If that’s true, how come all sorts of astronomical figures are now being quoted by Orlando.City? I know it’s down to the player to decide where he eventually wants to sign for, but surely an agreed fee Is just that, unless our CEO was telling porkies and I can’t believe that for a minute.
Personally I wish they'd just said he's here on loan full stop. This fee or that fee is doing my head in!!
I personally think the "agreed" fee is in the middle of the two. I got the feeling from Orlando's first tweets and comments about the loan that they were trying to placate their fans. They directly commented "short term" on a post about the loan and repeatedly used the term, as well as putting emphasis on it when discussing the deal. I also think Dane was doing the same with us, but at the other end of the spectrum. He was trying to "sell" the deal to us by teling us we could have him for similar money to what we would usually spend. This is the reason I think the fee will be higher than we would normally be willing to pay, and less than the $20m Orlando quoted. Maybe £8m? Either way, we would need to be in the top flight to make the deal permanent, I'd think.
Yet, given how much we needed a striker at the time, there was no need to sell the deal to us. Didn't need to say anything about an option to buy.
Dane knew we’d got an unbelievable talent. But I don’t think anyone truly expected Daryl’s arrival to be quite this impactful and so now the whole world is aware of this outstanding young footballer. I’m just enjoying him being here for another few weeks. Who knows what the future holds?
Is he likely to be here for the season? Or recalled when Orlando's season starts? Been conflicting reports on that as well.
Do you mean, will he be here if we make the playoffs? I am only in a position to guess on that one. So I don’t want to give anyone false hope. Let’s cross that bridge if we have to. Six games to go. One by one.
Was wondering about the last 6 league games as well as any potential play off games. Thought the MLS season started later this month, while we still had a few games left.
It's the loan aspect I was meaning. The owners have said more than once that we would not pursue loan signings, as all we would be doing is develop someone else's player without any financial gain at the end of it. By telling us his permanent signing was a realistic target, they wouldn't get any backlash for getting in a loan.
But would there really have been a backlash for getting a loan? Don’t recall one when we signed ludewig.
We're Barnsley fans. There is always a backlash against something! To be fair, backlash maybe wasn't the right word. I was thinking more of all the debate over the years of if loans are good or bad, and the owners stance on them.
Fantastic if we do sign him, If we don't, I think our model should be adjusted so that we aim to have one very high quality loan in the squad for the season, regardless of whether we can buy them or not. Now that we've seen we are capable of pushing for the playoffs, we have to balance the model against the optimum potential level of the squad. As we've seen with Dike, this has the potential to raise the playing standard of the entire team.....
