I still don’t believe that Italian side were competing clean. 37 game unbeaten run & their team seemed to get better the longer each game went on during the tournament. Since they won it they’ve regressed massively & many of their top players have never rediscovered their form.
Needs to be judged when we play a 50/50 game in the World Cup. Can we finally overcome a France, Spain, Brazil or Argentina in a knockout and instead of being **** scared of losing a lead, have the tactical nous to push us on. That’s when he needs to be judged. We limped to that final last summer. Yes he got us there. He also got us there playing some awful football with an element of individual brilliance and luck. I’d say Southgate was saved from a severe backlash from that Bellingham overhead kick. Had he lost that game then I doubt the Gareth fans would be on here right now sticking up for him. Isn’t hindsight a wonderful thing tho.
I can't see Tuchel lasting very long. I fail to see what good it does to say (paraphrasing) your mother is repulsed by Bellingham. Doesn't get you anywhere. To me it's his opinion masked with the use of his mother. Just looks like a precursor to dropping him.
Without Bellinghams overhead kick Southgate would still be the 2nd most successful England manager of all time. Im not syaing we shouldn't aim higher but the way he's spoken about is disappointing. You could just as easily say he'd be a national hero but for 2 awful penalties by players who should be embarrassed at how bad they were.
England U21s on Channel 4 tonight in Euro U21 Championships, ko 8pm. Be a better watch than the senior side.
There's a lot of relevance in the saying.. "Be careful what/who you wish for!". I think maybe Gareth's time was up as well, but there's no doubting his impressive record. Going back to the failure of Euro '16, and the ridiculous appointment and departure of fat Sam. Gareth had few expectations on him to begin with, apart from at least qualifying for each tournament. These are early days under Tuchel, and I'm not going to take a summer friendly defeat, too seriously.
