Maybe they’re trying to entertain people who are cooped up all week and just bring a smile out in the couple of minutes a week they have ?
I prefer to say I’ve been entertained rather than somebody’s attention seeking . Seen some crazy sights and it’s raised a smile . I say good on em tbh don’t like the fireworks though tbh but that’s just me.

I thought the fireworks were excessive, but there were Morris Dancers dancing down a street in Cleethorpes!

Brings the street together for a few minutes with a few smiles. I love it.

I’ve mentioned it B4. People clap for people they don’t even know at football, why? cos they supported the club.? Should we clap every game cos I’m pretty sure some supporter will have died before each game. ? I’ve had people say to me who are we clapping for.? Bizarre. Most of us would probably know someone. Who’s died during the season. Leave it for the last match. I also have the utmost respect for frontline workers. The difference being lots of em have died by putting themselves at the forefront. So all you that don’t clap cos you think it’s patronising to the NHS workers . Then do it for those that have died. Which is why I choose to clap. Which is why acknowledge the war dead. Actually not knowing any family member or friend that has ever died in a war. Each to their own. But please don’t accuse everyone of trying to get one over on anyone else. I too believe that some want to be the centre of attention. But not most.
Also lots have been saved by the NHS . Should they and their families and friends. not clap to show their appreciation.

Instead of a look at me minute of fancy dress, making loud noise and taking footage to post on social media, we should probably have a minutes silence for those who have passed as a new sad landmark number has been reached.

I was sat in a bath of baked beans wearing a miniature union jack umbrella hat. And then pushed down the street by people in inflatable sumo costumes.Clapping all the time mindst you.
I think there's a bit of equating clapping with self congratulation and photo opportunities, tacit government approval etc but most of the folk on our street I would put to the left of centre, and they were clapping. Proud of the NHS and anybody else working their tripes out to combat the virus and keep us fed, watered and safe. Plus in Europe where it started, they were doing it every night, which is probably a bit much.

I think it’s great that people proudly clap the NHS workers on a Thursday. Personally, I can’t wait for the Thursday when I can proudly vote to elect a government that really cares about the NHS and shows it the only way that really counts,,,, funding it properly!

The whole street was out last night, great to see and big boost for the ambulance man and the two ICU nurses who live near us. Heroes all -who deserve our thanks and show if support instead of politicizing it get out, shout and wave hello to your neighbours, get involved. so what if people have a bit of fun with it, there’s little else to smile about.

Why can't people express an opinion about something without anyone else calling it 'politicizing'? If people have views then they have views....

Cos instead of thanking those on the ground risking themselves for our benefit they’re moaning about the tories as usual. But I’ll just shurrup shall I, maybe the forum name should be changed to “BFC forum for folk who agree with each other” **** it.

No you shouldn't shut up if you have sensible views to express. Likewise you should not overly criticize people who make points which you don't agree with. Disagree with people if you wish but explain yourself when you do.

Many people I know have stopped doing the Thursday night appreciation minute ( not me)
for the nhs/ key workers, I asked them why ( not to debate, it's up to them ) " I'm bored with it now" is the standard reply, ok mate each to there own, i dont think the nhs/ key workers are bored going into a environment everyday where they could be killed, but as i said each to their own

You don't have to do that.

    Just clap instead.

    Clap for the carers.
