There is a good article in today's Chronicle about Chris Stern staying in Barnsley. He says "We are settled here. Our kids are settled at school and me and my partner are connected socially. We've found a home here and made friends." He has started a new role, coaching youngsters from under 7s to under 16s, for the Yorkshire Regional Talent Centre based at Darton Academy and Silkstone United FC. Good to hear.
Must have some dollar then. Being able to afford to settle in spite of not being involved in professional football anymore.
Glad he's got something. Hugely likeable character. But I don't think we've had a group more likeable than Stendel, Stern and Tonge.
I think it's quite rare for several reasons. You don't often get glimpses of all of the coaching staff. You don't often get to see their character. And obviously, on top of that, they may not be decent or likeable. Good testament to each of those three that they were a credit in the way they handled everything and were rightly liked for not just their successes, but the manner in which they went about their business.
I have a lot of respect and 'guy love' for Chris. Really nice person, lovely family. Living in Barnsley must be ok.
No, he's not wealthy,Stephen, he's still young and he's settled and enjoying living and working in another country. This job will help him to develop his coaching skills and make links with local professional clubs. Some might say Dale Tonge, has taken a backward step going to Scunthorpe, given his coaching qualifications but he too has a new family and needs a income. I imagine it's hard for coaches and support staff in football, as it doesn't seem a secure working environment, much like the rest of us,sadly.
Always seemed a bit of a mad one did Stern, probably why he's stuck around Barnsley A very likeable chap.
