On the back of this I had talksport on talking to Bowyer....These are the people who told us that our trivial lives were over unless we were spoonfed football to occupy our meaningless exustance...well yve got it bk and now saying to Bowyer...its too early int it llee...ya cant play yet can ya....should it be back...its not rite is it lee......priceless
https://www.skysports.com/football/...gbPjgUC25j5Hkq6mosa5Lhs-bNOC4CBaZhTcu8bd4mZZE Story there like others have said I can see his valid point but it's not good for charlton.
That's fair enough I think, he's just being honest. I've more respect for him openly admitting it than just going through the motions on the pitch and shirking 50/50 balls.
On a personal level, I can understand his feelings, but an injury in June is no different to an injury in May is it? Not when the seasons being extended. Would he have downed tools in April without the virus, or why didn’t he sign a contract that took him to a point in the season where he thought an injury would ruin his aspirations and sit the rest of the season out on no money
also they have 15 players out of contract and some loans. They could be in the poop https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52881671
Still under contract but refusing to play for Charlton in case he gets injured scuppering a move away. Being backed by his manager with the blame being put on covid-19 and the delay in restarting (in other words it shouldn't restart) Am I missing something? Had we not had a break couldn't he have picked up an injury then too? Does that mean the club would have backed him if he refused to play from march on just in case he got injured?
Guessing the problem is his contract would end June 30th, so they wouldn’t be able to make him play after that. That then poses the problem for Charlton that do they play him until then only or try to go with a team throughout for continuity. Given he has probably never made much money from Football and at his age is probably his only chance of a decent pay day, so I can see where he coming from. That said if they go down can’t imagine him being very popular with Charlton fans.
He wants it all ways though surely. If he got injured last November, he’d want paying. It’s in his contract. What about that same contract now?
Unless he's already signed a pre contract (reminds me of Eaststander talking of pre-ordering but I digress) I suspect is "last big pay day" will be a lot less than he was expecting.
his contract will be 30th June. Professional athletes asked to perform at optimal level after several months inactivity and almost no contact training would be more liable to injury.
Yeah, course he would but the difference is his contract will end only a couple of weeks after they start playing, so he has no obligation to play and listening to Bowyer it sounds like he is making final decision not Taylor.
To be fair to him, he's getting to the back end of his career, the chances are it will be his last shot at a decent move.
I must be seeing this differently. (And I said in a previous post that I accept they can’t make him actually try on the pitch). But, if his contract ends 30th June, he’s under contract during the re-start,,, 20th to 30th. His plans for after the end of the contract are irrelevant. He may not like it, but that’s how it is. Can you imagine the fire brigade turning up to a fire twenty minutes before the end of the shift and refusing to save the occupants because they’ve arranged to go for a pint after work and don’t want to risk getting hurt?
I understand where you’re coming from and to an extent I agree. He has also said to Bowyer he wants to play but won’t be the same player due to those concerns. He is one of 3 players at Charlton, which suggests Charlton are part of the decision process made by those 3 players. Ultimately he could have just gone through the motions for one maybe 2 games, which arguably could be worse for Charlton.
it seems some other clubs have players staying away too. oh and look at the state of Cam Mcgeehans barnet!! https://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/...uth-players-stay-away-training-ground-2871176
It is a bit dispiriting to think players wont pjay in Why wouldn't he have made much money from football? I'll hazard a guess that he's made much more than any other job/profession he was able to pursue if he hadn't chosen football.,
Although I agree with the player here. What he's doing can have a detrimental effect on his career. You only have to look at the antics of Peter Odenwingie and Saido Berahino and what happened to their careers to see it can go sour very quickly.
Oh, and Ollie Mcburnie was only on loan to us and he played right up until the end of our relegation battles. I'll take your word on him being a good bloke @YTBFC but I don't see how him not playing until 30th June can be condoned.
Come on ! If we're talking Barnsley this season you know full well that the opposition could put out a team of girlies and we'd get beat. As has happened so far it seems that other sides can't wait to play us to get their guaranteed three points, so missing a few players won't upset them.
